Description

May 7, 1963 .1. T. SAWYER ORBIT DISC TOY Filed Aug. 26, 1959 United tates Patent 3,088,739 ORBIT DISC TOY James T. Sawyer, 7504 Martha Drive, Huntsville, Ala. Filed Aug. 26, 1959, Ser. No. 836,134 2 Claims. (Cl. 273-409) This invention relates to an orbit disc toy. It has for its main objects to provide such a toy that will be highly satisfactor-ry for the purpose intended, simple in structure, cheap to manufacture, easy to use and keep in serviceable condition, and very durable.
A further object is to provide such a toy that will afford much amusement for children and be free of any parts that might cause injury while in use.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawing and specification.
By referring generally to the drawing it will be observed that FIG. 1 is a vertical view of the toy made according to this invention and in condition for use; and FIG. 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2. of FIG. 1.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the two views.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the toy comprises a ring 1 made of fiat material and provided with a plurality of holes 2 of a size for a child to insert fingers of one hand therethrough for the purpose of moving the ring in a perpendicular and circular manner. A disc 3 with a groove 4 is placed on the track and side portions 5 of the ring with the object being to cause the disc to circle around in the ring when it is moved as stated above. The ring size is about twenty inches inside diameter. The disc is about four inches in diameter.
From the foregoing it will appear that the disc is guided by the track integral in the ring and will maintain its orbital motion as long as the ring is circularly or rhythmically oscillated. Several discs can be made to orbit the ring one behind the other it desired.
The ring and disc may be made of any material suitable for the purpose but I prefer to use plastic material or the like. Also the ring and disc may be made in different sizes and capacities depending on the sizes of the children or persons using the toy.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, and I reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain Within the scope of the invention and the following claims.
Having described my invention I claim:
1. An orbit disc toy comprising a ring, a track portion around the inner face of the ring, part of the body of the ring being flat, said flat portion having a plurality of holes therethrough and evenly spaced apart around the circumference of the ring; a disc, said disc having a groove around in its circumference edge, said groove being of a size to fit movably on the track portion of the ring with the outer edge of the disc in contact with side portions of the track.
2. An orbit disc toy of the character described comprising, a ring, a track portion around the inner face of the ring, part of the body of the ring being flat, said flat portion having a plurality of holes therethrough and evenly spaced apart around the circumference of the ring; a disc, said disc having a groove around in its circumference edge, said groove being of a size to fit movably on the track portion of the ring with the outer edge of the disc in contact with side portions of the track; said ring being of a size for several discs to travel around in same one behind the other.
