To all whom 'it may concern:
of the Netherlands, residing at Vryenban, near Delft, Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Embroidering-Machines, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a embioideringmachine -for automatically sewing characters, words, figures, numbers, etc., in woven materials and the like.

The machine, mounted on the frame, is driven by means of a pulley l on a horizontal shaft 2. By means of a sliding clutch Fig 3 a section on the line 3--3 of Fig. l,

Tt will be clear, that` the 'cam disk S and the crank 14 must be adjusted with respect to each other in such a manner that the pin "9.- is kept lifted when the ratchet wheel 19 moved forwardly by`a tooth by thepawl v13 and consequently the yblocks are rotated correspondingly.

The slot 28 is arranged at 'a considerably smaller angle with the rod 12 than with the rod 30, so that a movement to theright ot the rod 12 by the spring a will displace the block in the recess 2.7, whereby -the cam slides through the slot 28. The block consequently is moved out of its middle-positionfthat4 is with the cam in a vertical plane through the axis 'ofthe rod 12) by amovement to the left as well as to the right.

This is effected automatically. For this purposev a pulley 38 with a weight 39 is fixed on the drumshaft (Figs.v 1 and 4). For rotating back the drum, the pin 13 must be kept in its lifted'position. The pawl 18 also must be kept lifted out of engagement with the ratchet wheel 19. A counterpawl 40 arranged to engage the ratchet wheel 19 kin order to prevent the drum from rotating backward must alsobe lifted out of engagement with the ratchet wheel. l
For keeping the pin 13 uplifted, stopping Vthe machine and lifting the two pawls 18 `and 4() the following device is employed: VA block G8 is provided with an adjustable l.projection 41. V This projection is secured projection 45. This is the position in which the clutch 3 is coupled, the machine is running and the drum is moved forward by the pawl 18. Y
Y The projection 41 in engaging the tail 42 of the lever 44 will turn the latter, so that it falls against the projection 46 and consequently will turn the sector 47.V
Together with the lever 44 a sector 72 fixed on 'the shaft of the lever 44 is rotated. This sector lifts the 'counterpawl 40 by means of a connecting rod 48 and a rod 49 on the axis of the pawl, connecting 48 with Vsome play with the pawl.
An elongation 50 ofthe sector'72 when the sector rotates presses on the tail 51 of the pawl 18, so that this pawl also is lifted.
The sector 47 is articulated at '52 to one end of a rod 53 (Fig. 3), the other end of which vis articulated to a rod 55 fixed on the same shaft as the lever 54 of the clutch 3.
In rotating the sector 47 to the right the clutch 3 consequently is disengaged and the machine is stopped. On the same shaft as thejrodis fixed a lever 56, theend of which is articulated'to an arm of a doublearmed lever 58,' rotatable at 57, thev other arm of which. in rotating to the left, comes into engagement with a stop 59 of the rod 12 so that this stop and consequently the rod 12 are moved to the left and the pin 13 is lifted out of engagement with the blocks of the drum. The drum now is freed from the pawls 18 and 40 as well as from the pin 13, and is rotated back in its initial position by the weight 39. After the lreturn of the drum to initial position a second adjustable stop 60 on the Vsurface of the drum in a vertical plane other from that ofthe stop 41 comes into engagementwith an arm 73 on the shaft of the lever 44 and turns the latter back against the stop 45. ln order to prevent the automatical coupling of the clutch 3 under the action of the lever 44 with weight on the stop 45 of the sector 47, a stop 61 is arranged in the path of the lower end of the lever 54 (Fig. 3), said stop keeping said lower end in the disengaged position. This stop can be moved by hand, by meansfof a lever 62 under the action of a weight or spring, out of the path of the lower end of the lever 54, so that the clutch again is coupled, the rod 12 again is moved to the right, the pin is brought into engagement with a block and the pawls are coupled.
Claims.
1. In an embroidering machine, the combination with a sewing machine having a4 feed claw, of a drum having on its peripheral face Vdepressions and projections representing characters to be sewed, means for rotating'the drum, a vertically slidable pin adaptedto engage the projections and depressions of the drum,y means for raising and lowering the said pin, and means for adjusting the feed clavvof the machine from the pin Voperating means.
2. In an embroidermg machine, the combination with a sewing machine having a feed claw, of a drum having onits periphery depressions and projections.representing characters to be sewed, means for rotating the drum, a slidable member adapted to engage the depressions and Vprojections of the drum, means for' controlling the movement of the slidable member, means for .adjusting the feed claw ofthe machine from the member4 controlling means, and means for returning the drum to its initial position and stopping the machine. Y
3. In an embroidering machine, the combination with a sewing machine having a feed claw, of a rotatable drum having on its periphery depressions and projections, a sliding pin adapted toengage the depressions and projections of the drum, a sliding and spring actuated rod, means for operating the pin from said rod, means for operating the rod from the sewing machine, and means for ladjusting the feed claw of the machine from the said rod.

In anembroidering machine, the combination with a sewing machine having a feed claw, of a drum having on its periphery depressions and projections, a sliding pin adapted to engage the projections and depressions of the drum, a sliding and spring actuated rod, means for operating the pin from the rod, means for operating the rod, a block mounted on the said rod and having j of the said lever and provided with an eX-v Ygage the rib of latter. In an embroidermg machine, the coman oblique cam on its upper face, a second rod at right angles to the first rod and having an enlarged portion provided with an oblique slot into Awhich the cam of the block works, and a connection between the second rod and the feed claw of the machine for adjusting the same.

In an embroidering machine, the combination with a sewing machine having a feed claw, of a `pattern drum, a sliding pin for engaging the drum, a sliding and spring pressed member, means for operating the member, means for operating the pin from the member, a second member at right angles to the first member, a cam operated by the first member and engaging the second member, means forroperating the cam, and meansV for adjusting the -feed claw' from the said second member.

In an embroidering machine, the com bination withV a sewingmachine having a feed claw, ofa rotatable drum having on its periphery depressions. and projections, a sliding pin provided with a rack and adapted to engage the depressions and projections of the drum, a sliding and spring actuated rod provided with a rack, a toothed sector engaging the rack of the rod, a gear wheel on the shaft'of the sector and meshing with therack of the pin, means for operating the rod from the sewing machine, and means for adjusting the `feed claw of the machine fromthe said rod; Y
