QQQQW ATTORN EY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH KAISER, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO CARLOTTA G. KAISER, OF
7 SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
NEGKTIE.
Application filed August 8, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH KAISER, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in neck ties of the hand tied type, and the objects of my invention are: first, to provide a neck tie of this class in which the neck tie does not engage the collar button on the back so that the tie may be easily moved longitudinally with the collar for tying the same; second, to provide a neck tie of this class in which the neck tie is not over the collar button, thus reducing the'bulk between the outer portion of the collar and the neck of the wearer; third, to provide a neck tie of this class with reinforcement and providing a smooth surface next to the collar button, and fourth, to provide a neck tie of this class which is simple and economical of construction, durable, easy to place in position, easy to move in the fold of the collar, and which will not readily deteriorate or get out of order.
vVith these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter my invention con sists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the characters of reference thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which Figure l is an elevational view of a fragmentary portion of a four-in-hand tie, showing the portion engaging the collar at the back; Fig. 2 is a sectional view through 22 of big. 1 on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a fragmentary portion of my tie shown in position in a fragmentary portion of a collar and showing portions of the collar broken away and in sec- 7 tion to facilitate the illustration.
Similar characters of reference refer to Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 248,830.
similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawing My neck tie consists in the ordinary or conventional hand tied neck tie but with a port on cut away on the lower side at l, leaving a narrow portion 1", which is adapted to move easily between the collar button and the upper edge of the collar even in very narrow collars and which is provided with a relnforcing strip 1, which is adapted to strengthen this narrow portion 1 and also provide a smooth, heavy surface to facilitate the moving of the neck tie relativ e to the collar for properly positioning the same for tying.
It is obvious that with this'construction there is provided a'neck tie of the hand tied type which will not engage the collar button on the narrowest collars and that the neck tie may be readily slipped in the collar to the proper position for tying and that the tie is reinforced and strengthened by reason of the reinforcement 1, and that by reason of the narrow, portion, less surface engages the collar thus reducingthe friction.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is:
l. A necktie having the upper marginal portion intact from end to'end, the lower marginal portion being cut out at the central portion of the tie for a length and height permitting the necktie to avoid con-.
tact with the collar button in application andtying adjustment of such tie.
2. A necktie having the upper longitudinal half of the rear central portion intact, the lower longitudinal half being cut away to provide a tie space for the rear collar button, whereby the tie in use avoids contact with said button while being arranged above and on both sides of the button to permit even adjustment.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at San Diego this 2 day of August, 1918.
; JOSEPH KAISER.
