To all whom it may concern: Be it knownthat we, 'MAR -ANToINE PAT- TAY, tradesrnan, and EUeisNE 'JAQUEMOT,
mechanician, citizens of Switzerland, residing at Geneva, Canton of Geneva in the Confederation of Sw1tzerland,have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Electric-IncandescentLighting Apparatus, of
which the following is a specification. i
This invention relatesto'a lighting ap'pa ratus and more particularlyto an electric lighting apparatus especially deslgned for use in motor vehicles, although, as Wlll be understood, its use is not so limited. The invention relates still more specifically to that type of electric lighting" apparatus in' which relatively small' electric lamp bulbs are employed. 4 These small electr c lamp bulbs are usually manufactured with a screw threaded stud adapted to be received in a socket for completing the circuit through the filament otthe lamp bulb. Due to the relative size, however, of these screw studs the same are not entirely uniform and this applies also to the socket members inwhich these screw studs are adapted to fit, the result being that in many instances the contact between the screw stud and thesocket is not sufliciently good to make the proper contact for closing the circuit, and the obtion illustrating'the socket member and the.
.parts for engaging the stud or shank of the lamp bulb.
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the clamp member,
and
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the gland. Referring to the drawing, it will be seen that in carrying out this invention, we preferably employ a holder or bodymlember a which may be cylindrical or of any other configuration and made of any suitable ma- Application and September 4, 1 1a Serial no. 321,605L

, Thelampbulb is indicated at "wanrl a i customary is provided with a screwistud' g; This '1s"adapted to be received in one'end of a clamp sleeve it. As clearly shown in Fig. 3 this clamp sleeve h is screw threaded exteriorly as indicated at 72. at one end thereof and at the other end is providedwith afflare ing extremity as indicated at Hand in' whlch there are, slots k extending, appreciably intothe screw threaded body' portion of the sleeve.
Associated with these members I also employ a collar This is.
provided at one end with a flange '2" adapted to receive the flared'portion h, and in order to-make the collar more-resilientit may also be'slotted as indicated'at v1 1 Together with these parts there is also employed'a cap y. This is fitted witha bush associated as clearly shown in Fig. 20f the drawing, in which, as will be seen, the collar i 1s adapted to fit over the outer portion of .il'lg'k connected to a pl lpthe parts eing 7 the cap j with the end thereof abutting. v
against a shoulder provided therefor on the outer portion of this cap, while interiorly' the cap y is screw threaded so as to receive the body portion of the sleeve h. The parts of the lamp structure as thus assembled are indicated at 6. Now, .it will be apparent,
screwthreaded body portion of thesleeve that when the cap jis turned soas to free 5 i the same or partially free the same from the 100,
h the outer flaring and slotted-end of the sleeve it will readily receive the-screw stud of the lamp bulb, and when the screw stud I '105 1 end of the sleeve h the cap 7' may be turned 5 in the opposite direction so as to draw the of the lamp bulb is thus received in the flared sleeve it within the same, carrying the lamp bulb with it and causing the flared end portion 71. of the sleeve to securely engage the screw stud of the bulb by being forced into the flanged end of the collar 2'.
As'indica'ted in the drawing, one terminal to the lamp may besecured in the bracket 6 as in the said cap, and a flared slotted portion adapted to receive the screw studoi' alamp bulb, and a slotted cylindrical collar adapted at one end to fit over a portion of the said cap and provided atthe opposite end with an internal flange adapted to engage with the flared portion of a sleeve so that when 1 the sleeve-is turned down in the cap the flanged portion of the collar will engage the ,flared portion of the sleeve to forcegthe same against the screw stud of the lamp bulb to hold the same in position.
7 2. An electric lighting dev ce comprising a holder having a lamp socket at one end 7 and a lens at th e'other end, a lamp fitting consisting of a cap, a sleeve having a screw threaded body portion adapted to be turned into the said cap, and a flaring slotted portion adaptedto receive a screw stud of a lamp bulb, and a collar adapted at one end to be received on a portion of the said cap and abut against a shoulder provided therefor on the said cap, the said collar being provided atits opposite end with an internal flange adapted to bear against the flaring portion of the sleeve so that when the sleeve is turned into the cap therfiaring portions of the sleeve will be engaged by theinternal tions of the sleeve to engage the screwstud of a lamp bulb to hold the same in position,
the said clamp fitting being adapted to be.
received wvithin thesocket member of the said holder, i 1 V In testimony whereof'we afiix our signatures in presence of two witnesses. MARC-ANTOINE PATTAY; EUGENE JAQUEMOT. Witnesses: V I
