T0 at whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW YUROW, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burglar Proof Locks, of which the following is a specilication.

This invention relates to door locks, being intended more particularly to use on the doors leading to houses, or buildings generally.

The invention has for an object to provide a novel and simple form of lock of the type which may be opened from the inside without a key but requiring the use of a key to open them from the outside.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a horizontal sectional view of a door lock constructed ac-' cording to my invention, showing the bolt in engagement with the keeper.

As here shown my improved lock comprises a casing 10 of the general oblong shape common in looks of this type and adapted to be secured to the inner face of the door in any well known manner, the face of the casing in contact with the. door being formed by a removable plate 10 secured to the casing body by screws such as 12.

The bolt of my improved lock is in the Y form of an oblong rectangular skeleton member consisting of the side bars 15, united at their forward ends by a cross bar 15' and at their rear ends by a second cross bar l5 provided with transverse extensions 15, the bolt being of a thickness to fit snugly between the plate 10 and the opposite wall of the casing 10. The bolt is normally urged inwardly, or to its locking position by a coiled expansion spring 16 located between the side bars 15 and bearing between a head l7, pivoted as at 18 to the casing 10 and the rear cross bar 15 of the bolt, the head 1? having a pin 19 which projects a short dis tance toward the cross bar 15, while the latter is recessed as at 20 to prevent displacement of the springs.

The bolt is formed with an integral rearwardly projecting yoke-like extension 22 which terminates in a neck 23, the latter projecting through an opening 24 in the rear edge wall of the casing 10 and having a head 25 on its outer end. Cooperating with this extension 22 and neck 23 is a device for holding the bolt either in its looking or unlocking position and which comprises a latching arm 26 pivoted at its inner end to the extension and extending outwardly through the opening 24 and having a head 28 on its outer end. The latch 26 is here shown as connected to the member 22 by means of a screw 27 passingfreely through the latter and threaded into the latch, a spring 27 be ing interposed between the head of the screw and the member 22 to cause the latch to be pressed into yielding frictional engagement with the neck 23. The upper edge of this latch is formed with a pair of notches 29 and 30 which are adapted to engage the edge of the opening 2a when the latch is swung upwardly to lock the bolt in its open position, as in Fig. 3, or against actuation by the key when in its locking position.

Themeans whereby the bolt may be released by a key comprises a lever bar 31 extending along the rear face of the bolt and fixed between its ends on a rotary head 32 suitably journaled in the plate 10' and having a stem 33 projecting into a barrel 34; formed'on the plate 10 and extending through a suitable aperture in the door, the barrel and stem being provided with any usual cooperating means for preventing ac tuation by any but the proper key.

To cooperate with the type of bolt here shown I provide a keeper member consisting of an angle plate 85 adapted to be secured by suitable screws to the door frame and having a rearwardly turned hook member 36 which engages over the web 15' of the bolt.

It is believed the operation of my improved lock will be apparent from the foregoing description, the bar 31 throwing the bolt outward against the action of spring 16 to disengage it from the hook 36 when 7 simply pressing head 25, and it may behel'd in such unlocking position by swinging the the head 32 is turned by the key.
