Description
JOHN L. SEOOMB, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
EMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED=-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 34.,6H4L, dated January '7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN L. SEcoMn, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spring Bed-Bottoms; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon and being a part of this specification, in which- Fig. 1 is a perspective of my improved bedbottom; Fig. 2 is a perspective of one of the spring slats, from the under side; and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section, showing the manner of fastening the slats.
Like letters indicate like parts in each figure.
The nature of this invention relates to an improvement in the construction of spring bedbottoms whereinsprin g slats are employed, so arranged that the slats are prevented from losing their elasticity and from becoming permanent-1y bowed or bent. The invention consists in the general combinationand arran gement of the various parts, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents two longitudinal slats, to which are secured, by means of the L-shaped screws B, the transverse slats C. At the four corners of the fi ame thus made are placed the coiled springs D,
upon the top of which are fastened the transverse bars E. To the upper sides of these bars E are secured the longitudinal springslats F, by means of L-shaped screws, B. Upon the underside of these spring-slats F are riveted or otherwise conveniently secured the spring-stiffeners G, for the purpose hereinbefore described. Under certain circumstances spiral springs might be placed upon the two, center transverse bars 0, which would support the center of the spring-slats. I prefer the spring-stiffeners G as more effective and much less expensive. H are diagonal springbraces, the outer ends being secured to the under side of the bars E, and the inner ends to the under side of the center transverse bars 0, for the purpose of steadying the whole frame.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A spring bed-bottom, wherein the slats A, screws B, slats or bars 0 G, springs D, bars E, spring-slats F, stiffeners G, and diagonal spring-braces H, are arranged substantially as set forth.
JOHN L. SEOOMB.
