IMPROVEMENT lN DRAWING-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,550, dated January 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS H. KANE, of the city, county, and State of New York,have invented certain Improvements in Drawing- Boards, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to manufacture and provide drawing-hoards, which are so constructed that warping of the wood becomes impossible, and, consequently, a true manufactured drawing-board will remain true under every influence of the atmosphere and damp or dry weather.
In order to describe my invention more fully, .I refer to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
Figure I is a top view of a drawing-board embodying my invention. Fig. II is a bottom view of the same. Fig. III is a longitudinal Ais the drawing-board proper. Into the back of this drawing-board are planed grooves a, a, which correspond in size and distance apart with the bars B B, which cross each other and extend from the four interior sides of the frame 0. Between the frame 0 and the board A is placed an elastic or pliable frame or single strips of India rubber d d, which allow the free expansion and contraction of the wood. Metal fastenings e c are laid into the wood and held by screws 8 s over the bars B B, serving to hold the whole struct ure firmly together. 7
By grooving the wood crosswise and substituting for the wood so removed meta-l bars which are firmly held to the outside frame, and by holding the wood firmly to these bars by the metal fastenin gs described, all warping in any direction of the wood is entirely pre- Vented.
Having thus fully described my invention, I desire to claim- The frame (J, bars B B, India-rubber frame or strips 01 d, and fastenings e e, in combination with the drawing-board A, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
