WILLIAM LEE CLARKE, .13., 0F TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA.
NON-SLIP MOTION-PICTURE-FILM Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J une 29, 1920.
Application filed November 29, 1919. Serial No. 341,414.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM LEE CLARKE, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Tallahassee, in the county of Leon and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Non-Slip Motion-Picture-Film Bands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in binders or bands for securing moving picture film upon a reel in a manner to prevent its accidental unwinding or mutilation.
In film binders heretofore used, the cord carried by the binder or band, often slides to one side of the face of the film, between the film edges and the adjacent face of the reel. This sometimes results in mutilation of the film and entails considerable trouble and waste of time in rearranging the binder. The present invention therefore, aims to overcome these and many other disadvantages by forming the binderin a manner to resist lateral movement of the cord when the said binder is in position.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings. g
In the drawings:
' Figure 1 is an end view of a film reel with the binder in position.
Fig. 2 isa perspective view of the band or binder.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of one end of the binder.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken transversely through the restricted end of the band. 7
Referring to the drawings in detail,
wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reel is indicated at 10 and is of the usual or any preferred construction. I
The binder or band which is designed 'to be placed around the film to prevent its unwinding, comprises a strip of heavypaper V or other suitable material 12,hav1ng secured at one end a button 13. Fastened to this button is one end of a cord 14, which,' when the binder is in position is designed to be wrapped around the outer face of the band 12 and to have its end secured around the button to hold the band in position. band 12 is of substantially the same width as the width of the film, while secured toor formed upon the end of the band is a flat sleeve 15 which is adapted to encircle the cord and form a housing for the same, one end of the cord extending beyond the end of the sleeve 15 to provide means for securing the same to the button 13.
By covering the cord 1 1 in the manner shown, by the sleeve 15, when the band secured in position, any tendency of the cord to slip or slide laterally of the face of the The film is resisted and should such action occur. the width of the sleeve will prevent its entrance between the edge of thefilm and.
the adjacent face of the reel.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is one end of the strip, means covering said cord to resist lateral sliding movement thereof when the binder is secured in position.
and means whereby the free end of the binder may be removably secured to the strip. 7 r 2. The combination with a film reel, of a binder comprising a strip of flexible material of substantially the same width the film, a cord secured to and extending from one end of the strip, a strip of material folded over said cord and forming a continuation of the first mentioned strip, and means whereby-the free end of the cord may be removably securedto the strip.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
