IMPROVEMENTJN COMBINED PACKING-BOXES AND SHOW-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 1341.,4180, dated December 31, 1872.
to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of the form ofa combined box and show-case, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view with the lid open. Fig. 2 represents a side view with the lid closed.
The body of my box is made in triangular form, with each end of the oblique line cut away. A A represent the end pieces, which are made in the form as shown. E represents the bottom, B the back, and D the lid. The baseline at is horizontal, the back line bis vertical, and the front line h is oblique at an angle of about forty-five degrees. At the upper end of each end piece A. the material is cut away and inclined downward, at c c, to the top edge of the back B, as shown. At the lower end of each end piece the material is cut away on a vertical line, and the end pieces and bottom E are connected by a strip, d. Upon the top of this narrow strip is hinged thelid D. This lid is provided with a projecting flange, e f g, on its three sides, so that when it is thrown forward on the box-body the flanges fall over the top edges of the inclines h h and c o, as seen in Fig. 2. 1 The combined box and show case may be constructed of any suitable material, and its interior may be provided with horizontal or vertical shelves, and the back may be provided with a mirror, if so de sired.
A box thus formed will be found advantageous for packing perfumery, toilet articles, medicines, 850., and by its peculiar formation bottles and packages of different heights can be shown to great availability.
The lid, being hinged at the front of the box, will always fall onto the box-body, unless thrown forward of the line vertical with the strip (1, and, when thrown open, forms a receptacle for cards, circulars, and other advertising mediums.
What I claim is a As an article of manufacture, the withindescribed combined box and show-case, composed of the bottom 13, back B, end pieces A A, strip (1, and lid D provided with the flanges efg' and hinged at w to the strip d, all substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 30th day of October, 1872.
JOEL NELSON.
