JOSEPH JACOBS, or LAKE CHARLES, LoUrs-IAnA, AND ALBERT JACOBS, on NEW YORK, n. Y.
GARMENT-HANGER.
Application filed November 7, 1919.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, JosErH JAcoBS and ALBERT JAooes, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Lake Charles, parish of Calcasieu, State of Louisiana, and 215 Fourth avenue, New York, county of New York, State of New York, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment hangers and it has for its object the provision of an improved device oi? this character constructed in such manner that it may be manufactured at a very small cost,'will hold garments in a natural and proper shape during the time that the device is in use and upon which the garment may be mounted with a minimum of trouble.
Further objects and advantages of the iiivention will be set forth in the detailed de-- scription which now follows.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of a garment hanger constructed in accordance with the invention Fig. 2 is an underside plan view thereof; and
Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional view upon line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals designate corresponding parts in all of the figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawing it will be seen that the body portion of the hanger is made of two parts 5 and 5 united by a lap joint at 5 and disposed at an obtuse angle with relation to each other so that when a coat is hung thereon the back of the coat is stretched in substantially the same position that it occupies when upon the wearer. A hook 6 provides means for hanging the structure upon any desired support. The member 5 is cut out at 7 to receive the end of a trousers supporting rod 8. The opposite end of this rod is pivoted by means of a pin 9 within the member 5 in such manner as to permit a limited lateral and vertical movement or" the free end of the rod 8. A wire 9 is bent at 10, 11 and 12 and its free ends are engaged with the member 5 in Specification of Letters Patent.

such manner as to form a detent into which the free end of the rod 8 may be snapped. A pin 13 projects downwardly from the member 5 and has a recessed lower end 14 in which the body of the rod 8 engages. By freeing the end of the rod 8 from the wire detent. and. swinging the same laterally a looped pair of trousers may be slipped upon said rod and the rod may then be thrust back into engagement with the detent which, act binds the trousers between thepin 13 and the rod 8 and thereafter prevents the trousers from slipping oii of Said rod.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes iiairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claims.
Having described our invention what We claim is 1. A garment hanger comprising a body portion made of two pieces which lie at an obtuse angle with relation to each other, a trousers supporting rod loosely pivoted at one of its ends to one of said members, a detent carried by the other of said members for engaging the free end of said rod and a pin depending from the last named member and projecting into the path of movement of said rod.
2. A garment hanger comprising a body portion shaped to receive a coat, said body portion being provided with an underside notch adjacent one of its ends, a wire having its ends engaged with said body portion and having its intermediate portion bent to form a recess, a trousers supporting rod loosely pivoted to said body portion at the side thereof remote from said detent and having its end shaped to engage in said detent and a stop projecting downwardly from the body portion and having a recessed JOSEPH JACOBS. ALBERT JACOBS.
