Description

A. E. JOHNSON. PACKAGE FOR DISASSEMBLED VEHICLE CURTAIN WINDOWS.
' APPLICATION FILED JAN. 27. |920.

'hiermede ron DISASSEMBLED VEHICLE-CURTAIN WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 2.2, 1920.`
Application led January 27, 1920. Serial No. 354,398.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, ABEN E. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, county of Barry, State of Michigamhave invented certain new and Yuseful Improvements in Packages for Disassembled Vehicle-Curtain Windows, kof which the following is a specification.
This invention relates tov improvements in package for disassembled vehicle curtain windows.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved package for disassembled parts of vehicle curtain windows including glass panes in which the panes are effectively protected so that the package may be shipped by parcel post or express, the package being very compact and but little weig t being added to that of the parts.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification. The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure which is a preferred embodiment of my invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure I is a perspective view of a package embodying the features of my inven.- tion.
Fig. II is an enlarged transverse section 011 aline corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. I.
Fig. III is a perspective view of a part of the package showing the manner of binding and protecting the glass panes.
Fig. IV is a detail elevation showing th windows mounted in a curtain and illustrating the method of mounting the same.
Fig. V is an enlarged detail section on a line corresponding to line 5 5 of FigpIV.
In the drawing similar reference characters' refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the curtain of a motor vehicle having windows set therein comprising the glass panes 2, the clamping supporting frame members 3 and the clamping bolts 4. The window openings in the curtains are of such dimensions that the supporting frame members 3 clamp upon the edges 6 thereof, as shown in Fig.' V.
My present improvements relate particularly to the packaging of the parts for shipment byparcel post, expressor the like, and I arrange the panes 2 in a superimposed relation with sheets 7 of cellular board at each side thereof, the cellular-boardbeing preferably a single piece folded over the panes, as shown in Fig.- II.
The superimposed panes and cellular board are clamped between a pair of frame members 3, the frame members being tied together by the Wire ties 8 disposed through the holes 9 provided for the clamping bolts 4. These ties are drawn up so that the frame members are firmly clamped upon the cellular board and serve not only to hold the panes and cellular board in place but to provide a border frame effectively protecting the same.
The remaining frame members 3 are superimposedupon the panes so bound providing a recess 10 in'which the envelop 11 containing the bolts 4 and their nuts are disposed. The outer wrapper 12 envelops the parts so arranged, the Wrapper being secured by the cord 13 or otherwise as desired.
By this arrangement of parts but little weight is added in packaging the parts and they are so arranged that the package is very compact and is well adapted for shipment by parcel. post as there are no objectionable projecting parts. Heretofore, devices of this kind have been packed in boxes with excelsipr or the like, which method of packing is not only expensive, but the packages are quite bulky. n
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A package for the disassembled parts ofvr a plurality of vehicle curtain windows including panes and pairs of pane supporting frame members and clamping bolts therefor` comprising the, panes superimposed with sheets of cellularpboard at each side thereof, a border frame for the superimposed panes and sheets of cellular board comprising a pair of the frame members yclamped upon thepanes and cellular board sheets by ties connecting such frame members at the outside of the edges of the panes, the remaining frame members being superimposed on the panes so bound providing a' recess, an envelop containing the clamping bolts disposed in said recess, and a Wrapper for the parts so arranged.V
2. A package for the disassembled parts of a plurality of Vehicle curtain Windows including panes and pairs of pane supporting frame members and clamping bolts therefor, comprising the panes superimposed with sheets of cellular board at each side thereof, a border frame for the superimposed panes and sheets of cellular board comprising a pair of the frame members clamped upon the panes and cellular board sheets by ties connecting such frame members at the outside oi the edges of the panes.
3. A package for the disassembled parts ol a plurality of vehicle curtain Windows including panes and pairs of pane supporting frame members and clamping bolts therefor, comprising` the superimposed panes, a border' frame for the superimposed panes comprising a pair ofthe frame members clamped upon the panes, the remaining frame members being superimposed on the panes so bound providing a recess, an
envelop containing the clamping bolts dis-` posed in said recess, and a Wrapper for the parts so arranged.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two Witnesses.
