RUBBER-STAMP ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 22, 1920.
Application led February 19, 1920. Serial No. 359,876.k
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK E. FROST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Rubber-Stamp Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for a rubber stamp by which the subjectmatter of the stamp may be readily designated. It is the common practice to mark such stamps by pasting a label thereon or by removing some portion of the finish and then marking the stamp with ink or pencil. These are makeshift expedients and the marks soon become soiled or displaced.
It is the obj ect of my invention to provide an attachment by means of which a neatly made strip or label may be secured to any rubber stamp and will be fully protected from dirt or wear. At the same timethe label may be readily removed or replaced should occasion require. l
With this object in view my invention re-y lates to arranfgements and combinations of parts hereina ter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of my invention is shown in the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a rubber stamp with my attachment thereon;
Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken,k along the line 2 2 in Fig. 1, and
Fig. 3 is a perspective rear view of the closing tube or cover. Y
Referring to the drawings, l have shown a rubber stamp of the usual form having a body portion 10 commonly of wood or similar material.
VMy designating attachment comprises a strip 11 of any suitable material, such as paper or thin card-board on which a name or other quotation may be written or printed.
My invention also comprises two or more tacks or similar elements 12 having relatively large iiat heads, said elements being driven or otherwise secured in the body 10,
stamp having a with the under side of the heads spaced slightly from the side of the body 10.
1`he third part of my attachment is a flattened slotted transparent tube 13 commonly made of Celluloid and adapted to inclose the strip 11 and to be secured to the body 10 by slipping the tube lengthwise past the heads of the tacks 12, with the rear edges'of the tube dis osed between the heads and the body l0. he stri 11 is thus securely heldon the side `of t e body l0 and is fully protected from dirt or injury by the transparent cover 13. If a change in the label is desired the cover and strip may be easily removed at any time.
Having thus described my invention it will be evident that changes and modifications can be made therein by those skilled in the art within the spirit and scope of 1n invention as set forth in the claims, and do not wish to be otherwise limited to the details herein disclosed.
What I claim isz- 1. An indicatin attachment for a rubber od portion, comprising headed elements fixe in said body portion with the heads spaced therefrom, a strip of sheet material having a designation thereon, and a flattened slotted transparent covering tube inclosin said stri and directly secured to the bo y portion by said headed elements.
2. An indicating attachment for a rubber stamp havin a body portion, comprising a pair of tais having lar e flat heads, said tacks being fixed in said ody portion with said heads spaced therefrom, a strip of sheetv material having a designation thereon and positioned yagainst the outer side of the heads of said tacks, anda fiattened slotted transparent covering tube inclosing said strip and having its edges 'disposed between the body of the stamp and kthe heads ofthe tacks.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.
FREDERICK E. FROST.
