IMPROVEMENT IN DUMPINGTRUCKS.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 134i, 32?, dated December 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC I. TAToM, of IVest Point, in the county ot' Troup and State of Georgia, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Portable Dirt-Hoppers; and I do hereby deel-are that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part ot' this specification, and to the letters and iigures ot' reference marked thereon,
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of alongitudinal section of myinvention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.
This invention has relation to portable dirthoppers, designed for use in filling graves, ballasting railroads, grading streets, Ste.; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of the hopper having pivoted sides and triangular ends mounted on wheels, as and for the purpose hereinafter more fully described. V
Referring to the drawing, A designates the frame or truck supporting the hopper, and mounted on truck-wheels B B1. The hopper is of a V-shape. Its sides B? are pivoted to the frame posts A', have double cleats E at the ends, land are held together by hooks F at the bottom and ends, as shown. The ends of the'hopper are triangular boards A2, which slide between the cleats. When the hopper is to be emptied the hooks F are loosened7 whereupon the sides swing apart, allowing the contents to fall through the open middle of the truck. The sides of the hopper run lengthwise Ot' vthe frame; but for convenience in tilling graves they may be arranged transversely, or, more properly, the wheels arranged transversely, so that the hopper may be pushed over the grave from one side. On each side of the frame are three Wheels, the middle wheel being larger than the other two. The sides of the hopper are supported upon the frame-posts by means oi' the beams G, which have journals turned on their ends. These journals fall into recesses or bearings in the tops ot' said posts, from which they may be lifted to allow the hopper to be removed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The portable dirt-hopper herein described, consisting of the frameAmounted on wheels, and the V-shaped hopper having the pivoted sides B2, triangular ends A2 having its sides connected by hooks F, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
