Description
F. MEINBERG.
Brow-Bands for Bridles.
No. 134,213 Patented Dec. 24, 1872.

UNITED STATE PATENT QFFIGE.
FRANZ MEINBERG, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT EN BRQW-BANDS FOR- BREDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 134,213, dated December 24, 1872.
nary construction.
To carry out the invention I take a strip of sheet-zinc, and work a sufficient length of it, by tinners rolls, into a trough-like section,
giving it, at the same time, the proper bend for a front band. A considerable length of flat or untreated metal should be left at each end, which is afterward or previously bent around. by hand or by machinery to form a loop adapted to receive the up-and-down portion of the head-stall. The loop should correspond closely in size to the thickness of the leather which extends up and down, so as to embrace it with tolerable tightness.
The accompanying drawing forms a part of I this specification.
-like in section, as above described. A A are the loops formed in the same metal at each end, and adapted to embrace the upright portion of the head-stall. I paste or otherwise cement upon the springA a covering, 13, of patent-leather or other suitable leather, of sufficient width to allow its edges to nearly or quite meet around the spring. I arrange this leather so that the abutting edges are in the hollow front side; or, in other words, in the interior of the trough. This being completed, and the same leather or other leather being extended properly around the ends or loops A A the head-stall i's finished by bedding in the trough (so as to cover the raw edges of the leather) a narrow ornamental band, D. The band D may be of bright red or other gay-colored leather; or it may be of brass or silverplated metal. Its ends being properly riveted, the front band is completed.
It will be observed that the main leather B is attached without a necessity for stitching; and that the spring A is in a form to give great strength with a small quantity of material. The loops A A make a stiff and strong junction of the band with the other portions of the head-stall.
I claim as my invention 1. The sheet-metal browband spring A A A formed concave, and adapted to receive the covering material and front ornament, as specified.
2. A concave sheet-metal spring, inclosed in a suitable covering material, cemented, as shown, with the abutting or overlapping edges in the concave front, in combination with the decorative material D arranged in the concave front, all as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony whereof I havehereunto set my hand this 9th day of September, 1872, in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
FRANZ MEINBERG.
Witnesses WM. 0. DEY, O. RAETJJIG.
