COMBINATION DRILL-PRESS TABLE AND VISE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1920.
Application filed February 28, 1919. Serial No, 279,815.
of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Drill- Press Tables and Vises, of which the follow ing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a combined drill press table and vise, and has for its ob ect the construction of a simple and efiicient drill press table that is constituted by a Vise structure, and which table can be quickly attached to the arm or bracket of the stand ard of a drill press.
Another object of the invention is the improvement of the construction of my drill press disclosed in my prior Patent #1260,- 513, issued March 26, 1918.
With these and other objects in View, my invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed ou in the appended claim.
In the drawings,-
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention, showing the same carried by the arm of a drill press.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of my comblned drill press table and vise, while Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Fig. 4 is a front view in elevation.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the movable jaw of the table and vise.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the column or standard of a drill press, and 2 the arm or bracket sl1dably mounted upon the standard 1.
My combined table and vise comprlses a primary or stationary jaw 3 and an auxiliary or slidable jaw 4. The primary aw 3 has a broad fiat table top 5, corresponding to the broad flat table top 6 of the auxiliary jaw 4, which jaw 3 is provided with an integral, horizontal yoke frame 7, extend ng outwardly at one side thereof, upon which frame 7 the jaw 4 is mounted, as hereinafter described. Integral with the central portion of the primary or stationary jaw 3 is a hollow shank 8, and this shank 8 is pivotally mounted in the arm or bracket 2, at 9, so that the combined table and vise can be swiveled 0r swung upon the bracket 2.
The auxiliary or slidable jaw 4 has a depending extension 10, and through'this extension 10 is threaded the bolt 11. The bolt 11 is also extended through the outer end 7 of the frame 7, and by rotating the outer end of the bolt 11, the slidable jaw 4 can be ad usted longitudinally of the yoke frame 'f', so as to place it against the stationary aw 3 or place it away from said jaw to increase the dlmensions of the table structure,
when it is desired to support a large amount of work upon the combined table and vise. The frame 7 is provided at its sides with outwardly extending flanges 12 that correspond in height tothe depending extensions 13 on the auxiliary jaw 4. Secured to the lower face of the extensions 13, by bolts or screws 14, are clamp plates 15, which plates underhang the flanges 12 of the yoke frame, thereby securing the slidable jaw upon the frame 7.
The drill 16 is adapted to pass between the jaws3 and 4 when the jaws are separated, as shown in Fig. 1, thereby obviating the necessity of cutting a hole in the table, as would be the case if it were made solid as in my prior Patent #1,260,513, and if a large piece of work is desired to be supported upon the table, the slidable jaw 4 can be moved to the extreme outer end of The aws are provided with suitable slots] 17 for lightening the weight of said jaws, and further for permitting the trash or shavings or the like to drop therethrough and readily clear the upper face of the jaws constituting the table.
I wish it to be understood that I reserve the right to make such alterations or modifications in the manufacture of my device as shall appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates, which alterations or modifications shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is: 1
In a device of the class described, the combination with a support, of a stationary jaw carried by said support and provided with a flat outwardly-extending table-like top portion, a slidable jaw supported contiguous to said stationary jaw and provided with a 10 described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my 15 signature.
GEORGE HOLMES COOKS.
