Application filed. August 22, I: 25.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Pnnorvnn limo, citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in llospitat Mattresses, of Which the following is a specilication.
This invention relates to a sanitary ho pital or invalids bed, of that class wherein provision is made for draining any liquid or other excreta through the mattress into any suitable receptacle beneath, When it is undesirable that the patient be moved.
The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference heing made to the drawings by which it is accon'ipaniec, in Which:
Figure 1 is a vertical section through a central portion of a mattress show" a lication ot the device thereto.
A i 2 is a plan of the same with the cover pad of heat non-conducting material removed showing the drainage plate.
Fig. 8 is a similar View of an iii-tern term oi plate, and
Fig. lis a section on the in Fig. 2.
The device comprises a pan 2, preferably of thin sheet metal, converging from a circular or oval beaded upper edge 3 to'vard a central tubular delivery 41.
This pan 2 is inserted in a recessed aperture 5 prepared for it in the mattress *6 ant the upper edge 2 is drawn below the general upper surface of the mattress by ll connections 7, preferably or": chain which connections pass through the body the mattress and removably connected by pins 8 to washer plate 9 apertured to pass over the lower end of the tubular delivery i and bear against underside oi? "the mattress 6.
Ti e diminished elasticity of the mattress, Where the pan is applied, is supplemented by a coil spring 10 between the underside of the pan 2 and the Washer plate 9.
Within the beaded upper edge 3 of the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, T92 0 Serial Ito. 250,980.
pan is fitted a drainage plate 11, the entire surface of which is apertured, as shown in Fig. or, as shown in Fig. 2, it has a central aperture and drainage grooves 13 radiating thereto, which 5 coves will impart a certain asure of strength the plate to Withstand llexure.
As previously stated, the upper beaded 3 of the pan is drawn down into recess provided for it below the general surface of the upper side of the (l, in this recess is placed an apertured l of corlr or other suitable mat ial.
Although the tubular delivery aperture i is shown of ly large size fitti the device for use as a bed pan When the cork pad d drainage plate 11 are removed, there are many cases Where this re q iron is unnecessary and Where co quently the tubular delivery be small lit the material of the pad 5 is of sutlicient strength t sustain the Weight imposed upon it the drainage plate as a detached part may be dispensed With.
'ing now particularly described my in venticn, l hereby declare that What I claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letter-s Patent, is:
In combination with a mattress, a funnelshapecl pan having a central discharge outlet removably secured Within a correspondingly shaped aperture in the mattress, a u plate, flexible connections between the upp r edge of the pan and the Washer plate, and connections passing through the v
