UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
JOHN wOEEELL, OE CLAYTON, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN suLKv-PLows.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 134,121, dated December 17, 1872.
To all whom it may concern Be it` known that I, JOHN WORRELL, of Clayton, in the county of Hendricks and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Sullry-Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specication, and to the letters and 1i gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawing is a representation of a longitudinal section, and Fig. 2 is a transverse section ofthe same.
This invention has relation to sulky-plows; and consists in the hereinafter-described improvements for the adjustment of the Wheels to suit a right or left hand plow at will, and in the construction and novel arrangement ot' devices for tilting the plow.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents the axle, consisting` of the horizontal section a and vertical section b. B' designates the wheels attached to the spindlearms C, the inner ends of which are enlarged, slotted, and attached to the sections b in a vertically-adjustable manner to allow either Wheel to be raised or lowered to suit the condtions of the implementwhen used with a right or left hand plow. D designates headed screws for securing the arms C at any desirable point of adjustment. E denotes the plowbeam, hinged at its forward end by means of a lug, e, to a vertically-adjustable standard, F, passing through the draft-pole F1. Secured y y to said beam is a loop-plate,'F'-, holding a staple, G, which catches a hook projecting from the hinged frame H, which is attached to the vertical sections of the axle, as shown. One arm of the frame H projects forward, and is used as a foot-lever in raising the plow. The upper part of the plate F2 is recessed, and holds the pivoted end of a lever, I. A bent rod, J, having an eye, K, at one end, connects with said lever, and is employed for the purpose of operating it in orderto tilt the plow to the right or left. The rod J passes through the seat-support L and through an eyebolt or pin, M, and is bent up to form a handle, N, within reach of the driver. O designates diagonal braces secured to the axle and draftpole.,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The slotted adjustable axle-arms C, holding' the wheels B, and having their inner ends enlarged and provided with the set-screws D, in combination with the bent axle-tree A, substantially as specified.
2. The lever I, pivoted to the plow-beam E, and connected to the. bent rod J running lengthwise of the tongue F, and through the seat-support L, and having the eye K and arm or handle N, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence ot' two witnesses.
JOHN WORRELL.
