Description
F.1UCOLANO. WINDOW'LOCK.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. H, 1919.
1,341,173, Patented May 25, 1920.
INVENTOI? ATTORNEY PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK IUCOLANO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
WINDOW-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented-May 25, 1920.
Application filed March 11, 1919. Serial No. 281,908.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I FRANK IUcoLANd, a subject of the King of ltaly, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful, Improvements in WVindow-Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window locks generally, and more particularly 'to a window lock whereby a window may be locked while partially open for ventilation, or other purposes.
The invention has for an object to provide a simple and inexpensive locking device of this type which may be readily applied to a window and remain a fixture thereon in place of the ordinary lock with which windows are usually equipped.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a face view showing the frame and sashes of a window, having the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged face view of the keeper member, showing a portion of the sash on which it is mounted.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 1 is an enlarged plan view of the bolt car carried by the lower sash.
My invention is adapted to be applied to windows of the usual sliding type, the window frame being shown at 1 in the drawings, the upper sash at 2, and the lower sash at 3.
According to my invention I provide on the upper sash 2 a keeper member having a series of vertically spaced bolt receiving a )ertures. In the modification shown in F igs. 1 to 1 this keeper member is in the form of a post 4 of T shape in horizontal section and provided at its bottom with an integral flange or foot 5 provided with sultable 0 enings adapted to recelve screws 6 by WlllCll the post is secured to the bottom bar 2' of the upper sash.
This post is secured in place with the transverse face thereof flush with the inner face of the sash 2 and this transverse face is formed with a series of recesses 7 which may be spaced any desired distance apart, the lowest one being close to the bottom of the post so as to enable the window to be locked in closed position.
As shown these recesses are adapted to have engaged therein a bolt 9 slidably mounted in a casing 10 fixed upon the top member 3 of the lower sash, in juxtaposition to the post 4, and secured in place by screws 11 passing through the integral base flanges 12 of the casing.
This bolt is of the spring pressed type and is normally urged outwardly by a coiled spring 13 surrounding the stem 14 of the bolt. Fixed to the bolt is a stud 15 which projects through a slot 16 in the casing 10 and carries a thumb-piece 17 whereby the boltmay be retracted. I do not claim any novelty for the detail construction and mounting of the bolt in itself and varying forms thereof may be employed as desired.
It will be apparent that with my improved lock the window may be locked in either fully or partially closed position as desired, and that the lock is of simple construction and easily substituted for the ordinary looks with which windows are usually equipped.
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination with a pair of window sashes, of a bolt secured to the lower sash, and a keeper consisting of a post of Tshape in horizontal section fixed upon and projecting upwardly from the lower bar of the upper sash, said post having its transverse memliieij' substantially flush with the inner face of such bar and formed with a plurality of recesses to receive the bolt, said recesses being extended partially through the other member of the T-sha-ped post.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
FRANK IUCOLANO.
