To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS P. LITTLE, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicopee Falls, in the: county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guides for Calenders, of which v in'gs in which- Figure 1 is a vertical section through a calender showing one of my improved es;

,The calender'rol s 10, 11 and 12 are of the usual type, carried between end frames 13 and working a sheet '15. In orderto prevent the bank of rubber-working out beyond the end of the rolls it is customary to provide a wedge shaped piece of wood which. is curved to conform to the rolls, and which is adjust- .-able to permit of wear being taken up.
It is essential to keep the guide in close contact with the roll where the rubber first comes in contact with it, as in the absence of. this condition part of the rubber Wlll jyork under the guide. If adjustment is made on-this-form of guide the point of the wedge is driven betweenthe rolls, and

and is located as a continuation of the end piece.
The 'end piece 16 and deflector 17 are mounted upon a bracket 18 attached to the end frame 13, it'being understood that there are two similar but inverse guides atthe opposite ends of the machine. The end piece 16 is usually' of wood, and has a curved and tapered end 19 which projects into the space between the calender rolls. For purposes of adjustment the end piece has square-headed bolts 20 sunk into its surface and passing through slots. 21 in the bracket, Nuts (not shown} on'the end of the bolts serve to hold the end piece firmly against the bracket.- When these nuts are released the end piece may be pressed toward the calender roll by screws 22, preferably square-headed, as at 23, and passing through lugs 24 in the bracket.

The deflector 17 has its inner surface 27 curved to correspond to the shape of the calender roll, and is beveled as at 28 to present a plow-"like action to the rubber forced against 'it'by the rolls rotation. In the face of the deflector adjacent the bracket is cut a T-sha'pedslot 29,'into which partially project a rib 30 on the bracket. A square headed bolt 31 extends into the slot, and is provided with a nut 32 by means of which the deflector may be clamped firmly A screw 33, provided similarly to screws 22 with a square head 34:
and a lock nut 35, passes through lug 24 16. It will also be seen that the deflector,
which is practically an extension of the end piece, can be adjusted separately from the end piece, so that closecontact between the leading edge of the. guide and the calender roll may always be kept without danger of breaking the end 19 of the end piece.
I claim 3 1. A guide for calender rolls comprising an end piece shaped to fit between a pair of adjacent calender rolls, a Separate extension of said end piece, and means for adjusting said extension independently of independently of the end piece.
