that I, HAROLD D. CHURCH, United States, and resident of Detroit, Wayne county, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Im which the following is a specification. This invention relates to hydrocarbon motors, and particularly to governing mechanism therefor.
One of the objects of thejinvention 1s to provide a simple and Compact arrangement Be it known of governor and 'throttle connections'on aI hydrocarbon motor.
Another object of the invention is to provide 'a governor unit that 'may be readily attached tol and detached from a motor. "Another object of the invention is to arrange the governor and throttle relativelyclose together so that the Connections between them maybe readily housed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel housing for the connections between the governor and the throttle valve.

Referring to the drawings-'10 represents the crank` case of a hydrocarbon motor in which is mounted a cam shaft'll driven from the motor crank shaft as byv gears 12 formed in a block and suitably mounted on the crank case. Two of the cylinders are shown in section in Fig. 2, andin the space between them a governor unit .16 is mounted.: This governor unit is self-contained and Specification of Letters Patent.'

The governor 19 Comprises a main shaft 20 mounted in bearingsl at opposite ends of the casing, and a block 21 secured to said shaft and having arms 22 upon which bell cranks 23 are; pivotally mounted as at 24. The fred ends ofthe bell cranks 23 are formed with weights 25 such as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, andthe other arms of the bell `cranks engage in a sleeve 2.6, which is adapted'to slide von the shaft 20. A spring 27 surrounding the shaft presses the sleeve 26 'downwardly and adjusting upper endJ of the shaft determine the tension on the spring. lThere is an opening 29 in the side of the upper casing member 18 which gives access to the adjustj lugs 32 on the arms 22 and bell cranks 23 respectively, determine the limit of operation of the governor.
The governor shaft 20 extends through' the lower endof the casing and a spiral gear'33 is connected to the projecting end. The casing is so formed that its lower end may be insertedthrough an opening 34 in the upper face of the crank case between two of the cylinders, and thusbe positioned gear 14 on the cam shaft 11. A flange 35 on the governor casing providesmeans for securing the governor unit to the crank case.
A cylinder head 36 is mounted on top of the cylinders and is formed with aninlet passage 37 for the various cylinders. A carbureter 38 of suitable form is connected. to the cylinder head to supply the passage 37 by means of an intake pipe 39, which is attached to the cylinder head directly above the governor unit.y At 'the upper end of the intake pipe 39 is a throttle valve l40 pivoted at 41, particularly as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. At one side of the intake pipe 39 adjacent the throttle valve is a chamber 42,the walls of which are partly formed integral with the intakev pipe and partly by a cover x43. This chamber houses an arm 44 which is secured to the pivot pin '41 of the throttle properly for the gear 33 to mesh with the thereofto limit the movement of the end of the arm 44. This adjustable stopv determines the minimum degree of opening ofthe throttle valve.
Between the ends of the arm 44 an operating rod 46 is pivotally connected as .at 47,'
and this rod extends downwardly through Aan opening in the chamber 42 and through a tube 48, which connects the interior of the chamber 42 with the interior of a hollow arm 49, which is shown as projecting later-l ally from the governor casing. Pivotally' mounted at 50 in the governor casing and extending into the hollow arm` 49, is a lever 51 which is pivotally connected to the vertical rod 46 at 52. The opposite end of the lever 51 is pivotally connected at 53, as
`particularly shown in Figs.' 1 and 2, to a yoke 54, which operates in an annular groove 55 in the sleeve 26 of the governor. By the above arrangement it will be' seen that all-of the connections between the governor and the throttle valve are incased, and by sealing the various covers to the casing the governor and connections may be insured against tampering with.
It is believed that the operation of the .governor and its connections is sufficiently clear from the Aabove descriptiony without furtherl explanation. y
It will be understood that other forms may be imade without departingv from the v spirit or scope of this invention;
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is y 1. A governor unit comprising a lower casing member and an upper casing member, a governor shaft jourifaled in the casing, a flyball governor mounted on said shaft, an adjusting device for the governorv at the upper end-of said shaft, said upper :casing member having anopening to give access to said device, and a cover for said opening.

a tube extending from said hollow arm to said chamber, and connections from the governor to the motor throttle extending through said tube.
