JOHN F. BEAR, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE OHIO SUSPENDER COMPANY, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
SUSPENDER-LINK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4, 1920.
To all lwhom t may conce/m:
Be it known that I, JOHN F. BEAR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Links, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a suspender link.
The primary objects of the invention are to construct a suspender' link composed of two yokes of different sizes one being adapted to swing within the other, and to provide means of pivotally connecting said yokes through the medium of a member having a slot formed in its central portion and also having bearings formed thereon to engage the tapes of an ordinary suspender, to provide means of connecting the shoulder and trouser straps thereto so as to permit the tapes to yield and travel over the bearings.
' Another object is to construct a pivoted connecting member whichl in 'combination with yokes having bearings formed thereon provide a suspender link having four parallel bearings thereby providing` means of yieldingly engaging and connecting with tapes which are in turn connected to the trouser and shoulder straps in such a manner as to yield and move in opposite directions when subjected to unusual strain caused by any irregular movement of the wearer of the suspender.
A further object is to provide a cheap and efficient suspender link with means of connecting with and engaging suspender tapes at both ends which tapes are in turn connected at their free ends to the shoulder and trouser straps of a suspender thereby permitting yielding engagement with and porlinection of the tapes to the suspender A further object is to provide a suspender link having four parallel bearings that have yielding movement with respect to each other.
Another object is to construct a suspender link composed of two yokes of different sizes provided with bearings in combination with means of pivotally connecting the yokes together to provide four laterally movable parallel bearings,
These and other objects are attained by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of a suspender link showing suspender tapes attached to the rear trouser and shoulder straps and interlaced to connect with and movably engage the suspender link at both ends.
Fig. 2 is a side view of Fig. 1 except that shoulder and trouser straps are omitted.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the suspender link showing one of the yokes pivoted out of alinement with respect to the other yoke and the pivoted connecting member.
In the drawings reference numerals 1 and represent the shoulder straps of a conventional type of suspender, 3 and. 4l the rear trouser straps thereof which are yieldingly connected together through the medium of a plurality of tapes and the suspender link. The body portion of the tapes are interlaced between the bearings of the novel suspender link to engage and travel over the bearings of the link or crown rollers which may be mounted thereon to reduce the friction and to cause the tapes to travel toward the center of the rollers. In constructing the suspender link to carry out my invention a large yoke 5 is preferably provided having bearings 6 and 7 formed on each end thereof and with sides preferably curved outwardly as shown in Fig. 1. An auxiliary yoke 8 is provided and made of such a size as will permit it to swing within the outer or larger yoke 5. The auxiliary yoke 8 is pivotally connected to the outer yoke 5 by means of a member 9 which is pivotally connected to the bearing 7 of the outer yoke 5 and the inner yoke 8 is also pi votally connected thereto.
The portions of the connecting member that are pivotally connected to the bearing 7 of the yoke 5 and to which the yoke 8 is pivotally connected are formed to provide bearings 10 and 11 for a purpose which will be described hereinafter.
A crown roller 12 is preferably mounted upon the top portion of the auxiliary yoke 8 to obviate undue friction and direct the course of travel of the tape toward the center of the roller. It will be noted that by the means of construction described all of the bearings of the suspender link are adapted t0 line up parallel with each other other.
In connecting the shoulder straps l and 2 yieldingly to one end of the suspender link, a tape 13 is interlaced with the link to pass over the crown roller 12 of the auX- ilary yoke 8 and the ends of the tape are connected to the shoulder straps 1 and 2. The tape 14 is interlaced with the suspender link to pass over the crown roller 15 which is mounted on the bearing 6 of the yoke 5 and its ends are connected to shoulder straps 1 and 2 thereby yieldingly connecting the shoulder straps 1 and 2.to the suspender link at one end through the medium of two tapes. At the opposite end of the link a tape 16 is interlaced with the suspender link and adapted to travel over the bearing 10 of the connecting member and its free ends are connected to the trouser straps 3 and 4. Another tape 17 is interlaced with the suspender linki in such a manner as to travel over the bearing 11 and its free ends are also connected to the trouser straps 3 and 4 thereby providing a yielding connection through the medium of two tapes between the suspender link and the trouser straps.
It will be noted that yielding connections are provided between the shoulder straps and the trouser straps which readily conform to any irregular movement of the body of the wearer thereby obviating undue friction or excessive strain on the parts used in constructing the complete suspender.
It will also be observed that while the bearings are all arranged to be in normal alinement and parallel with each other, yet at the same time they can move independent of each other laterally and give or yield more or less when subjected to irregularv pull or strain.
Immaterial alterations may be made in Aslot and two bearings which is adapted to pivotally connect the yokes together, shoulder and trouser straps and means of interlacing tapes at both ends of the link to yieldingly connect the shoulder and trouser straps.
3. In a suspender link composed of two yokes both of said yokes being provided with bearings and pivoted together so as` to permit one to swing within the other thereby providing a link of four bearings as described and set forth.
4. In a suspender link, two yokes of different dimensions pivoted together with one adapted to swing within the other, a combined bearing and pivoted connecting member having a slot provided therein connecting said yokes together as and for the purpose described. Y
5. `In a suspender link, a plurality of relatively yieldable links which are pivoted together in such a manner as to permit one to swing within the other the pivotal connecting means being provided withbearings which connect the yokes and provide four bearings thereby providing means of slidably connecting a plurality of tapes at each end thereof. Y
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOHN F. BEAR.
