To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, JOHN PATERSON, Jr.,

, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Edinburg, in the county of Walsh and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eraser-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a device for cleaning erasers such as are commonly used for cleaning blackboards in schoolrooms, and an object of the invention is to provide an eraser cleaner which is simple in construction, embodying a minimum number of parts, thereby enabling the cleaner to be manufactured for a small cost and also to provide a cleaner which will eflectively clean the erasers, and prevent the scattering of the chalk dust.

More specifically, the invention comprehends the provision of an eraser cleaner comprising a rotary foraminous drum which is mounted for rotation within an outer shell or casing, with the upper portion of which shell or casing a flue communicates, and further to provide an opening in the side of the casing which is adapted to aline with a corresponding opening in one end of the rotary drum, and which opening in the casing forms the dual function of permitting the insertion of the eraser into the rotary drum and also acts as a draft opening to permit the suction of air therethrough into the drimi and outwardly from the drum through the flue.

Other objects of the invention will appear in the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which drawing:

2 and 3 are substantially semi-cylindrical in shape, and their facing edges, are provided, intermediate their ends with enlargements, as indicated at 5 and these enlargements are provided with semi-cylindrical openings forming bearings for the shaft 9 upon which the rotary foraminous drum 101s mounted. The

shaft 9 has a crank handle 11 connected to its outer end for rotating the shaft and consequently rotating the foraminous drum 10.

The foraminous drum 10 comprises end sections 12 and 13 to the peripheries of which are attached screen or any analogous foraminous material which completely incloses the interior of the drum in such manner as to efliciently clean the erasers, during rotation of the drum and permit the passage of the chalk dust out of the drum.

The end 13 of the drum is provided with an opening 14, which is adapted to aline with an opening 15 formed in one side of the lower section 2 ofthe eraser cleaner and when these openings are alined, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing, they will permit the insertion of the eraser to be cleaned therethrough and into the drum 10. The upper section a of the casing l is provided with an upstanding collar 17 formed at the center of its upper end, and this collar is provided with an opening 18 which communicates with the interior of the shell. A pipe 19 is connected to the upstanding collar 17, during the use of the eraser cleaner, and this pipe has communication with a flue 20. Owing to the natural tendency of an upward draft through a flue which is well known, a suction will be created through the flue 20, pipe 19 and through the opening 15 in the drum casing or shell 1, during the operation of the eraser cleaner, and this draft will draw the chalk dust, which is taken from the erasers during rotation of the drum 10, upwardly through the pipe 19 and the flue 20, preventing the diffusing of this chalk dust in the air about the eraser cleaner.
