7 '0 cZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, KARL Sonarnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of ashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Infant-Chairs, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in infants chairs and has for its primary object to provide a base structure supporting the chair in such manner as to prevent it from accidentally tilting over should the child or infant lean over the sides or trayand thus insure against injury to the child incident to the tilting and fall of the chair.

li 'ith this and other objects in view as will a ipear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises the novel features of construction, combination of elements and ar rangement of parts which will be more fully described in the following specification and set forth with. particularity in the claim appended hereto.

Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the legs of the chair which are preferably arranged .in the upmtrdly converging relation illustrated in Fig. 1 and support the chair scat ll carrying the panels or strips 7 to which are attached the arm rests 8 and seat back 9.

The tray 10 is pivotally supported upon the seat back by arms 11 respectively of the type described and claimed in my co-pending application for patent. The front chair legs 5 support a vertically adjustable foot rest 12 carrying depending bracing mem-, here 18 in movable contact with the front faces of the legs 5 and increasing the strength and rigidity of the foot rest.

Anti-tilting base members lei are secured to the lower terminals of the legs 5 and are crossed as suggested in Fig. 2, the points of intersection of the base members lying in the plane of the vertical axis of the chair and said bracing members being of such length as to extend an adequate distance beyond the legs to prevent lateral tipping of the chair. The forwardly projecting portions of the base members 14: which are located beneath the chair tray 10 are preferably extended a greater distance beyond the chair legs than the rearwardly directed terminals of the base members so as to prevent the chair from tipping forwardly should the infant rest heavily or climb upon the tray.

Adjacent their outer terminals the lower surfaces of the base members are recessed as indicated at 15 and the walls of the recesses are undercut so as to snugly fit the tapered cushioning members 16 and secure the latter against accidental removal.. The cushioning members 16 are preferably constructed of rubber or of other material havingresilient and elastic qualities similar to those of rubber and screws 17 are fitted through the cushions and base members to prevent their removal, the heads 18 of the screws having a tendency to shrink beneath the lower surface of the cushioning member and provide a relatively narrow flange 19 preventing contact of the head of the screw with the floor and consequent injury thereto.

hat I claim is:

In a chair structure, supporting legs, and base members connected with the legs, said base member being connected with two of the diagonally opposed legs of the chair structure and said members being crossed and connected in the plane of the vertical axis of the chair structure, the terminals of the base members being extended laterally beyond the legs to prevent the chair structure from tipping over.
