Description

R. G. J. McENTIRE.
DEVICE FOR MAKING HYPODERMIC INJECTIONS.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 16, 1918.
Patented Apr. 27, 1920.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RONALD GORDON JOHN MOENTIRE, 0F DUBLIN, IRELAND.
DEVICE FOR MAKING HYPODERMIG INJECTIONS.
Application filed April 16, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RONALD GORDON JOHN MOENTIRE, of 23 Pembroke Park, Dublin, Ireland, have invented a new and useful device for making Hypodermic Injections; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to devices of the kind for making hypodermic injections wherein a tubular glass receptacle contain ing the injection is provided with a plug forming a rodless piston.
The main object of my invention. is to provide a device of this kind which is not only entirely self contained but is ready for instantaneous use, is perfectly reliable in action, and can be produced at a comparatively low cost.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a central, longitudinal seetional view of my improved device.
Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same.
My improved device for making hypodermic injections as here shown comprises a cylindrical portion a of sufficient size to contain the required dose and provided with a plug Z) of neutral rubber tightly fitting the bore of the portion a. One end of the portion a is tapered and'the hypodermic needle 0 is fused into this tapered end with its passage communicating with the interior of the cylindrical portion a. The other end of said receptacle a is funnel-shaped as at (Z and is connected to said receptacle by a neck m. Said funnel d prevents the fingers from slipping and insures a firm grip of the device.
By providing this neck the rear end of the device can be left open but the bore of the neck may if desired be sealed by a film of wax or the like or the rear of the end (5 may be covered by a film Z of cellulose or the like. The rear end of a cover 9 which incloses the needle abuts against the front end of the receptacle a and a hermetic joint is formed by a tubular sleeve 70 of cellulose or the like which also retainsthe cover 9 in Specification of Letters Patent.

position. comparatively slight pull on the cover 9 will remove the same and also the sleeve is which is prevented from leaving the cover 9 by the taper formation of the cover 9. This sleeve may be slipped into position on the cover after it has been made adhesive. A film of material may be wrapped around the cover 9 and reduced end j of the part a to form a sleeve. The bore of the reduced end j is of less diameter than the needle, and by covering the end thereof the end j prevents rusting of the needle, if the latter is of corrodible material.
The needle may be of ordinary steel or it may be formed of a non-rustable steel alloy.
I claim:
1. A device for making hypodermic injections comprising in combination, a receptacle, a plug of resilient neutral material in said receptacle forming a rodless piston therein, a neck on the rear end of said receptacle, a flange on said neck, a neck at the front end of said receptacle, a hypodermic needle permanently secured in the second named neck, a cover abutting against the front end of the second named neck, and a sleeve encircling the second named neck and said cover whereby said cover is hermetically secured to the second named neck, for the hereinbefore specified purpose.
2. A device for making hypodermic injections comprising in combination, a receptacle, a plug of neutral material in said receptacle, a neck at the upper end of said receptacle, a funnel shaped flange on said neck, a film of cellulose material secured to said flange and forming a hermetic closure of said rear end, a hypodermic needle at the front end of said receptacle and a needle cap at the front end of said receptacle for the hereinbefore specified purpose.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
RONALD GORDON JOHN MCENTIRE.
