Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,733, dated December 10, 1872.
Be itknown that I, ELLIOTT PENDLETON WEST, of JerseyOity, Hudson county, and
State of New Jersey, have invented a new and i Improved Cloth-Plate Slide for Sewing-Machines; and I hereby declare that the following isafull, clear, and exact description thereof,
` reference bein ghad to the accompanying drawing making a part of this 'specicatiom and .the letters of reference marked thereon, in which the same letter represents the same thing in each gure.
Figure 1 is a top view of the cloth-plate of a sewing-machine with the improved slide therein; Fig. 2, a top ,view of the improved slide.

Wear of the slides, from frequent insertion and removal, makes them loose, and in machines having shuttles playing in the line of motion with the needle-varm,`the jar of the machine, if
the slides 4are loose, opens them, admitting thread and dirt, and embarrassing the operator by the shuttles suddenly jumping out or wedging under the needle-plate and. breakingthe i triie wider than the race, its compression will secure a'tight fit in the grooves in'which it is to be moved.
` A screw-driver will spring the slot a little wider, whenever Wear makes it necessary to have a tighter fit.
