WIRE-STRETOHER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Application filed July 22, 1919. Serial No. 312,550.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that I, Snvrn G. Rnrrn, a citizen of the United States, residing at .Viniired, in the county of Fergus and State of Montana, have invented new and useful Improvements in li ire-Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
T his invention relates to improvements in wire stretchers, and the principal object of the inven ion is to provide means for curely gripping the wire so that the same can not slip and which will not cut or damage the wire.
lnother object of the invention is to provide a hook device on the gripping means for keeping the device in alinement with the wire.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arran ement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described and illus tinted in the accompanying drawings and sprv-ii'icallv pointed out in the appended claim.
in d c "hing my invention in detail, refeir -re .ll be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or 14.irresponding parts throughout the sevicws. and in which ure 1 is a front view oi the device;
2 is an end view;
Fig. 3 is view of the other end;
1* is a section on line 4.--l of Fig. l. in these views 1 indicates the body of the device which is provided with side wings One 0'? these wn gs is oent at right angles and curved downwardly and is provided with a hole said hole lying in a plane below the bottom oi the body. The other wing is a so bent at right angles and curved npw. and has its extreme end extended into hook shape as shown at a. The body part has its upper end extending above the wings and this upper part is bent over at right angles to form a stationary jaw 5. The movable jaw is formed of a body part 6 which is pivoted to the body 1 and the upper edge of said part is curved to cooperate with the aw 5. The part 6 is provided with an offset extension '7 which extends over the end of the stationary jaw 5 when the jaws are in gripping position. The lower end 0-; the part 6 is provided with an opening 8 to receive the link 9 which has a portion thereof extending through the hole 3. The usual chain 10 is connected with said link and connects the device to the handle of the stretcher. As will be seen, the gripping portions of the aws are in alinement with the hook t so that when the device is in engagement with the wire it will be securel held on the wire as said wire will be held in line with the jaws. As the jaws are provided with smooth faces, the wire will not be cut or bruised. By moving the link 9 the movable jaw may be swung into operative and inoperative position.
It is thought from the foregoing descr1p tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts. provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A device of the class described comprising a body having its upper end extending at right angles to provide a stationary jaw, a wing extending from each side edge of said body. one of said wings having a hook there on which is in alinement with the jaw, the other wing having its end extending downwardly and provided with an opening, a movable aw pivoted to the body and having a curved edge coho'perating with the stationary jaw and an offset extension extending over the edges of the stationary jaw and. a link connected with the movable jaw and passing through said openin in testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
