OLICE A. FLYNN, OF MILTON, WASHINGTON.
COMIC DOLL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 13, 1920.
Application filed July 16, 1919. Serial No. 311,254.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OLICE A. F LYNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milton, in the county of Pierce and State of Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comic Dolls, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to dolls, and particularly to comic or clown dolls.
The general object of this invention is to provide a comic or grotesque doll so designed that its various limbs may be turned to a large number of difierent positions with relation to its body and head and held in these positions so as to give the doll a very comical appearance.
A further object is to provide a doll of this character in which the body, legs, arms and head are flexible and flexibly connected to each other, and in which the body, legs, arms and head are provided at a large number of points with hooks and eyes or like attaching devices so that the arms, legs or head may be bent into various positions and then the members hooked to each other to hold the members in these various p-osi tions.
My invention is illustrated in the accom panying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a doll constructed in accordance with my invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the doll in one of its contorted positions;
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through the head of the doll.
Referring to this drawing, it will be seen that the doll consists of. a body A, arms B, a head C and legs D having relatively elongated feet E. The doll as illustrated is a rag doll and the legs, arms and head are so connected to the body that they may be readily shifted into a variety of positions with relation to the body and each other. The head has a relatively elongated neck and the feet are alsovery much elongated and flexible so that the feet may be readily bent into various angles with relation to the legs. The arms are also relatively long so as to permit the ready bending of the arms into all positions, and the nose is also preferably elongated. Attached'at various portions of the body are a plurality of eyes 10 and hooks 11.. These may be attached in more or less profusion upon the body, and it will be noted that the feet at the extremities are provided with hooks, though eyes might be provided, and that, for instance, the toe of one foot may be readily hooked to the nose or to the chest, or to the ear, or the arms and hands may be readily hooked to either of the legs, or to the nose or ear, or top of the head. The legs may be turned backward or forward and the feet hooked to the chest or back of the body, and in short the members of the fi ure may be shifted into hundreds of different positions and held by engagement with the hooks and eyes, thus providing a doll whose attitudes may be very greatly varied and which is a source of great interest and entertainment to children.
While I have illustrated a doll which is a rag doll or stuffed doll, I do not wish to be limited to this, as it is obvious that the doll might be constructed in other ways. Preferably, however, the doll is a rag doll or stuffed doll so that the legs, arms and head may be entirely flexible and may be bent freely in all directions.
While I have illustrated the body and members as being provided with hooks and eyes, it will be obvious that other fastening devices might be used, and I regard any equivalent fastening devices as being within the scope of this invention. A
I claim 1. A doll having a body and flexible members, the body and members being provided with coacting fastening devices whereby the body and members maybe turned into a plurality of positions and held in said positions by the fastening devices.
2. A rag doll having a body and flexible legs and arms, and a head flexibly connected to the body, the body, legs, arms and head being provided with coacting hooks and eyes for the purpose described.
3. A rag doll having a head, body, arms, legs and elongated feet, the body and the members being provided with a plurality of coacting hooks and eyes and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
OLICE A. FLYNN.
