MILTON C. SCOTT, 0F OMAHA, AND JOHN RILEY SCOTT, OF LINCOLN, NEBRASKA.
RAZOR-STROP PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
P tented-Mar. so, 192a.
Application filed June 16, 1919.v Serial No. 304,875;
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, MILTON C. Soorr' and JOHN RILEY SCOTT, citizens of the United States, reslding at Omaha and Llncoln, 1n the county of Douglas and county of Lancaster and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Razor-Strep Protectors, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
.This invention relates to a cover for a razor strop and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for covering the strops when they are not being used and which will permit the covering means to be easily and quickly removed when it is desired to use the strops.
Another object of the invention is to proyide spring means for holding the cover on the strop with means for compressing the spring to remove the cover.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing our invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sevoral views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the covering in place on the strop.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the means in compressed position.
Fig. is a edge view with parts broken away.
In these views 1 indicates the straps forming the strop. These straps are secured together at one end by the clip 2 which is provided with the suspending means, as usual. At the other ends the straps are provided with the hand engaging parts 3. The cover means for the strop consists of the casing l which fits over the lower end of the strop with the ends of the straps projecting therethrough. The casing is held to the straps by means of the loop 5 supported on the rod 6 which has its ends engaging slots 7 in the sides of the casing. The loop is placed between the straps and said straps will be clamped between the said loop and the ends of the casing. A fiat coil spring 8 has one end secured to the casing 4 and its upper end engages the sleeve 9 which embraces the strop. The spring tends to force the sleeve and easing apart so that when the sleeve strikes the clip 2 the movement of said clip will cease. The pressure of the spring on the casing 4 will cause the straps to be firmly gripped between the loops and the end of the casing. This will prevent the casing from being pushed 01f the ends of the straps. A suitable covering 10 is secured to the spring 8 so as to entirely inclose the strop and'the ends of this cover is secured to the casing 4 and the sleeve 9.
When the strop is not in use the device will hold it in extended position with the cover over the same. When the strop is to be used the sleeve is grasped by the fingers and forced toward the casing 4h. The sleeve is held in this position by the thumb while the handles of the strop are grasped by the hand. Thus the razor may be stropped without interference on the part of the cover means. As soon as the strop is released the spring will return the parts to covering position and thus the strop will be protected from dirt and dust and from the liquids used by the barber.
What we claim is 1. In combination with a razor strop, a cover therefor, comprising a casing connected with the lower end of the strop, a sleeve, spring means connecting the sleeve to the casing and a covering having its ends connected with the sleeve and easing.
2. In combination with a razor strop, a cover therefor comprising a casing having a slot therein, a loop member having its ends engaging said slots and adapted to clamp the straps between itself and the casing, a sleeve, a coil spring connecting the sleeve with the casing, and a cover having its ends connected with the sleeve and easing.
In testimony whereof we aflix our signatures.
