s'raor ro'a RAZOR-BLADES.
To all whom it concern: Be it known that I, ISAIAH CONRAD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented ce1-' tain new and useful Improvements in Strops for Razor-Blades, of which the following.
is a specification.
strops for razor blades, the object of the in vention being to provide improved strop holding plates normally held apart by a spring and adapted to bepressed toward each other to clamp a razor blade between them and when drawn off the edge of the blade efi'ectuallystrop the same.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. 7
In the accompanyin drawings, Figure l, is a pers ective View 1 lustrating the application 0 my improved device in the act of being drawn off a razor blade. Fig.- 2, is a view in longitudinal section illustrating the normal position of the device. Fi 3, is a plan view of the device. Fig. 4, 1s a plan view of one of the jaws, and Fig. 5, isa View similar to Fig. 1 illustrating a modification.
1, 1, represents two jaws, each comprising a metal p ate having inwardly turned ed 'es or flanges 2 to bind against the beveled edge of strops 3, and rivets 4, countersunk in the strops 3, are projected through its jaws and assist in holding the strops firmly in the jaws. The inner ends of the jaws are bent m .the general compound curvature shown forming inwardly bent portions 5 having openings 6, to receive a staple 7, having its ends bent at right angles and fiat against a jaw. Thisinwardly bent portion 5 serves as a fulcrum for the hinged movement of the jaws and the staple 7, serves to lock the jaws together. In rear of inwardly bent portions 5, the jaws bend outwardly, as shown at 8, and are provided with slots 9,
in their ends, to receive tongues 10 at thia= edges of a cylindrical spring 11, to hold the latter in engagement with the jaws, and the extreme ends of the jaws are bent toward each other as shown at 12 to engage each other and limit the opening movement of the jaws as shown in Fig. 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application flledAugust 11, 1909. Serial No. 512,307.
Patented Nov. 9.1909.
.In operation the operator grasps'thejaws l 1 between his thumb and fore finger and hblding the razor blade with the other hand,
presses the strops '3 against 0 posite sides of the razor and draws them 0 the edge of the razor. When pressure is relieved, .spring 11 will open the jaws ready to again receive the blade and by repeating this operation, My invention relates to improvements in.
In the modification shown in Fig. 5,"the
jaws 14 and sprin 15, are integral.
Various other changes might be made'in the general form and arrangement of the a arts described without de arting from, my
. inventionand hence I won d have it understood that I do not restrict myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what "i I claim as new and desire to secure'by Letters Patent is 1. As an article of manufacture, a razor.
strop, comprising jaws, strops fixed to the inner faces of both jaws, and a spring con-1 necting the jaws normally holding them in I open osition at an angle to each other.
2. s an article of manufacture, a razor stro comprising two metal jaws having inwar ly turned edges, strops secured to the inner faces of said jaws between the inwardlyturned edges, means hinging the inner ends of said jaws together and a sprin' engaging the inner ends of said jaws an normally holding them apart at an angle to each other.
3. As an article of manufacture, a razor strop comprising two metal jaws, strops secured to the inner faces of said jaws, the inner ends of said jaws bent substantially as shown, a staple hinging said jaws together, a cylindrical spring engaging the inner ends of said jaws and normally holding them apart at an angle to each other, and the inner end of said jaws bent forming stops limiting the opening movement of the jaws.
In testimony whereof I have signed my .name to this specification in the presence of
