To all whom t 'may concern Be it known that I, DELMER H. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greenville, in the county of Montcalm and v State .of Michigan, have vinvent-ed new and useful Improvements in Cleaning Devices, of lwhich the following is a specification.

The present invention, relates to cleaning devices; and its object is to provide a device of that character wherebythe surface to be cleaned may be washed by brushing or rubbing while wet, water being directed to portions of such surface which lie outside the area to which the brush is being applied at the moment, and this in order that all the dirt particles which may be dislodged by the brush may by the water thus directed be rinsed and carried away; and vfurthe-r, to provide improved methods for constructing such cleaning devices, and means for detachably securing their parts together. rlhis object and any other objects hereinafter appearing are attained by, and the invention finds preferable embodiment in, the

ln the embodiment of the invention chosen for detailed Idescription in the body of this specification and for illustration by the drawings, the body 1 is of sheet metal and its edge portions downwardly and inwardly and brought up to the under side of said body to provide a continuous water pipe 6, the joints at said under side and at the corners being made water tight as by soldering. Water is supplied to this pipe through a suitable flexible tube 7 communicating with such pipe through the connection 8 which may be provided with a cockI 9, and is discharged from orifices 10 through the pipes wall, being thereby directed against the surface to be cleaned, and to such portions of said surface 9., 3, 11, 5 are turned over as lieoutside the area to which the brush is applied at the moment. Especially where the device 'is to be used in cleaning walls, windows'and other vertical surfaces, the part of thelpipe to which the water is'first admitted through the tube (being that part formed iby the turned over edge portion 2) need not be provided withorices, because when the device is held upright on the polek handle 11, water discharged from orifices in said part ofthe pipe would be of slight practical advantage and therefore Waste. The brush 12 which may be of suitable brushing or rubbing material, as bristles 13 shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, rubber strips 14C shown in Fig. 4 or the like, is for ready replacement longitudinally slidable between retaining flanges 15 carried by and extending downwardly inwardly from the brushholding' member 116 which is detachably secured to the middle portion of the body l and surrounded by the pipe, as by screw. bolts 17 extending through said member and body. The end portions 3, 5 of the rpe, from the under side of the body, afford means to prevent the sliding disengagement of the brush from the brush-holder in the assembled position of the parts; and yet the nuts 18 of the screw bolts being turned offl the parts may be readily disassembled and a worn brush replaced by a new one.

, It will be seen that as the device is passed over the surface to be cleaned, the water dischargedfrom the orifices in the portion 4; above the brush and from the portions 3, 5 at either side thereof, rinse and carry away allthe dirt particles whichthe brush has dislodged; so that, the brush itself can not leave on the surface any dirt particles extending downwardly las lthey 'do which may have clung to it. A' suitable hanl d dle 19 is carried by the body 1. The invention being intended to be delined solely by the claims, is not to be limited to or'by details of construction shown or described. I claim:

1. In a device of the character described;

a body having a water pipe disposed on itsl bodys middle portion; and means for causing water to How through the'pipe and out of the orifices;

2. In a device of the character described; avbody having a water pipe disposed on its periphery, the pipe having orifices through its Wall; a brush; a brush-holding member having oppositely disposed downwardly inwardly extending flan-ges adapted to slidingly receive and hold the brush; means for detachafbly Securing said merniber ,to 'the bodys middle portion; means for holding the brush against lsliding movement on said member; `and means for causing water :to iow thloughthe pipe and out of the orifices.

- In a device ofthe characterdescribed; a .body having a continuous Water pipe -disposed aroundits periphery and on its under side, the pipe having orifices through its wall; a brush; a brush-holding member having oppositely disposed downwardly inwardly extending Hanges adaptedto slid 'ingly receive and hold the brush; screw 'bolts for detachably securing saidV memberV t0 the middle portion of the bodys under side; .and means for causing water to flow through the pipe and out of the orifices.
