IMPROVEMENT IN FUNNELS FGR CANNING FRUIT.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,4d5, dated November 26, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SARAH B. HERTWIG, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Funnels for Canning Fruit; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a sectional view of my invention.
This invention has relation to funnels designed for use in filling glass jars with heated fruit or vegetables; and it consists in providing a funnel with a verticallyadjustable metallic rod, which will absorb a large proportion of the heat conveyed into the jar,and thereby prevent the same from cracking, and which, by being adjustable, is suited to jars of any depth.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A designates a funnel having a eapacious spout, B, and provided with a handle, 0. D designates a tube, attached to one, side of the spout B, inside the same. E represents a rod, of metal or other suitable heat-absorbing material, passing through and adjustable within said tube. F indicates a wooden knob on the upper end of said rod, to allow the rod to be handled easily, and to prevent the hand of the operator from being burned.
