To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, AUGUST S. SWAN son, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at lVayzata, in the county of Heimepin and State of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Driving Clubs or Malshies, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the invention is to` provide a device of the character mentioned which is simple in construction, which is comparatively cheap and may, therefore,
be manufactured and placed within the reach of persons in moderate or poor circnmstances.
A further object of the invention is the` To the exact construction in which it is shown and described the invention is not to be restricted. The right is reserved to make such changes or alterations as the actual reduction to practice may suggest, in so far as such changes or alterations are compreheiided iii spiritbv the annexed claim.

Referring to the drawings, there is shown a driving head l of rectangular shape in plan and having the beveled longitudinal edges 2 and the straight sides 3.
On the top, the head is bored or trained diagonally from opposite ends to provide Specification of Letters Patent.

this handle being for the use of a right hand player, and it is apparent that when the latter strikes a ball with the heath'the tendency ist to turn the head on the handle which. being secured thereto by left hand ythreads, tends to tighten the engagement between the head and the handle. The handle received in the hole l is identical with the handle t3, but, of course, is provided with right hand threads and is to be used Iwhen the device is being eiiiployedby left hand persons.
On each of the flat sides 3 there is attached a rubber strip 7 which takes the i1npact of the ball when it is driven by the head. ,L
These rubber strips are preferably grooved on the head or theyY may be attached in any other acceptable way.
It is purposed to malte the head preferably out of maple and the handles 6 out of hickory,f it being contended that with the use of such material and the manner of construction disclosed herein. provides for the makingl of adriving club of a cheap but effective variety which is the principal object for which the invention is designed.
