HAIR-CUTTIN G APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 9, 1920.
Application filed May 28, 1919. Serial No. 300,332. g
7 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROBERT ALFRED JACQUAT, citizen of the Republic of France, and resident ofParis, France, postofiice address 137 Rue de Rennes, have invented a new and useful Hair-Cutting Apparatus, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification.
- improved manner ing the body of the comb a the device is being shown in Fig. 1the corr The present mvention relates to an implement enabling a person to cut his own hair. I
' This implement is composed essentially of an adjustable comb'which is fitted in an to an ordinary razor blade. The razor thus fitted is passed along the hair and cuts it, the depth of the out being determined exactly by regulating the comb in relation to the razor blade.
The razor fitted with the attachment in question can also be used for the beard and constitutes a safety-razor. x
The invention is illustrated by way of examIple in the accompanying drawing.
igurel shows the attachment fitted on to a razor blade.
i Fig. 2 is a view ofthe attachment as it ap ears alone. v Y
The improved attachment consists of a comb-like part a carrying two supports 1) which project perpendicularly from the back of the comb and around each of whichgis wound a helical spring 0. At the threaded outer end of each support I) a nut dis applied. Each supportb is formed from, and is in one piece with the flat metal strip formitself. 7 providedand may which falls away when shaped by stamping. These clips are adapted to straddle the back of the blade, and are suitably bent and rounded off so that they slip easily on said blade.
One leg of each clip 6 has two slits g which are disposed in spaced, parallel rela- Two sprmg clips 6 are be made of the metal tion so as to leave a narrow strip or bridge between them, beneath which bridge, as is ponding' support 6 is passed. This arrangement serves to hold the comb tightly pressed against the razor blade.
After the. two separate parts, (the comb and the razor) have thus been firmly clamped together the nuts 01 are screwed into position. i
It will be seen that with this form of mounting and withthe nuts d it is possible to regulate the position of the toothed-part port is inserted, whereby of the comb a in relation to-the edge of the razor blade f. The springs a continually tend to press the comb a downfarther away from the clips 6.
It will be readily understood that the two plece by having a back in common, the said i my said invention rigidly connected to it a pair of spaced supports which project laterall of the comb and have their 'ree ends thread-- ed; a pairv of spaced U-shaped spring clips adapted to straddle the back of'the blade, one leg of each clip being provided with a from the back pair oflparallel slits andiwith a bridge between them beneath which the adjacent supingly pressedagainst the the combis yield- 1 7 blade by the clips-' and a pair of nuts mounted on the threade 7 portions of said supports to adjust the comb with relation to the blade edge.
2. An adjustable attachment for razor blades, comprising a comb adapted to rest against one face of the blade and having rigidly connected to it a pair of spaced sup ports Whichproject laterally from the back of the comb and have their free ends thread ed; a pair of spaced, U-shaped spring clips adapted to straddle the'back of the blade, one leg of each clip being provided with .a'
pair of parallel slits and with a bridge be tween them beneath which the adjacent support is inserted, whereby the comb is yield-- ingly pressed against the blade by the clips;
a pair of nuts mounted on the threaded portions of said supports to adjust the comb with relation to the blade edge; and an expansible coil spring encircling each support and bearing at opposite ends against the j back of the comb and the free edge of the adjacent clip leg, said springs tending to press the comb forwardlytowardthe blade edge.
In testimony whereofl have signed this specification in the presence of two sub,- scribing witnesses.
