SEAL-FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Patent- Patented Mar. 9, 1,920-
bpplication filed October 25, 1919. Serial No. 333,322.
mg the same, and a single locking wire supported at its middle portion within said casing and engaging said shackle. The inforth, wherein the casing is made of two box-shaped sections relatively inverted and inserted one within the other, and. wherein the support for" the locking wire is,
formed on one of the side walls of the inclosed section. The construction. is further such that the shackle passes through openings in corresponding side walls of the boxes, and thus locks the same together, and is prevented from being pushed inward in order to release it from the locking wire by reason of the contact of its extremities with a wall of the inner box.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a section of my seal fastening on the line 1, 1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2, 2 of Fig. 1. f
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
' Thefincl-osing casing of my seal fastening is formed of two box-shaped sections A and B, which may be stamped or struck up from sheet metal, the side walls ofsection A being inclosed within the side walls of section B.
In the corresponding side walls O, D are openings to receive the arms of shackle E. The side wall C of section A has an integral 7 loop F which supports the single locking wire G. The said wire on each side of said support is bent, as shown in Fig. l, and its ends engage in notches in the arms of shackle E.
In assembling, the sections being placed together, with the locking wire in position on its loop F, the armsof shackle E are inserted through the openings in side walls 0, D into the casing, until their extremities meet the opposite side wall'H of section A.
The ends of locking wire G then enter and engage with thenotches inthe shackle arms,
whereby it becomes impossible to withdraw and so release the shackle from the casing.
Even if theshackle be cut so asto' disengage it fromlthe objects which it fastens together, it is notlpossible' to withdraw th'eparts of said shackle separated by the cutting, becausethe locking wire continues to engageeac'h separated part independently. Hence it is not.-
-practicable to extract themutilated shackle v a A in order to substitute a new shackle to re-. .seal thefastenlng after improper access to the hitherto united objects has been gained. f
I claim 1. A seal fastening, comprising a casing- I formed of two relatively inverted box shaped metal sections placed one within the other, aloo'p integral with aside wall of the inner section, a shackle enteringsaid casing 7 through register ng openings in both of said sections, locking the same together: and hav ing its extremities in contact with'a wallof the inner section, and, withln sa d caslng, a
'lockingwire supported bysaid loop and engaging said shackle.
2. A seal fastening, comprising a casing formed in two box-shaped metal sections disposed with the side walls of one section inclosed within the side walls of the other I section, a loop on one side wall of the inner I section, a shackle having 1ts arms enterlng v I said casing through openings-in correspond ing'side walls of said sections and on opposite SldBS" of said loop, and having notches in said arms, and a locking wire supported ing in said. notches.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signaturein presence of two witnesses. p THOMAS E. MURRAY.
