UNITED STATES PATENT ori-non GEORGE K. ASANO, 0F DALHART, TEXAS.
COMBINATION FAN,
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE AK. AsANo, a residin at Dalhart, in the county of Dallam and, tate of Texas, have invented' new and useful Improvements in Combination Fans', Score- Cards, and Mega bones, lowing is a speci cation.`
This invention comprehends the provision of a combination, fan, scor'e card and a which can be very cheaply manufactured for free distribution by large desiring to utilize the invention as an advertisin medium.
The 4invention embo ies among other features a handle having means for holding the fan blade associated therewith in either va fiat or rolled condition, to provide a fan or megaphone. v
Another object of the invention resides in providing the fan blade with means for a rolled -condition for and the invention is better unfollowing detailed deconnection with the aothe invention resid- Other objects as the nature of derstood when the scription is taken in ing in the `construction, arrangement of parts as claimed. v

10 indicates the handle properwhich is provided with a relatively wide end portion, the latter being bifurcated as at 11 to deiine the separated members 12 and 13 respectively. 'lhe handle 10 maybe constructed of one piece of material as indicated in Fig. 5, or'it may be made up in two parts or halves as shown in'Figs. 2, 3 'and 9, in which instance the halvesare glued or otherwise suitably secured together. The member 13 projects a slight distance beyond the adjacent end Vof the member 12, an
pivoted upon this extended portion of the member 13 is a clamping element 14 for the blade 15. The free end of the clamping element 14 may b e secured in any suitable manner to the member 13 in clamping position. As shown in this specific instance, a
resilient trip 20 is carried by the free end of the element openin 21 adapted to receive projecting from the adjacent side o the pin 2.2 f the The blade 15 is preferably constructed from card board, of the outline shown, wherein the opposed side edges incline from the wide or top edge of the blade toward the narrow lower edge thereof, and when the ,device in its entirety is to be used as a fan, the blade has its narrow endY positioned. with'n the bifurcation 11 between the members sequent to this .positioning of the blade, the clamping element 14 is extended across the bladeto effectively engage the latter when secured in its position. Each side of the blade 15 is scored as at 16 in a manner similar to-a base ball score card, so that in addition to being used as a fan, it can be utilized'in the capacity of a score card as will be readily understood. As hereinabove stated, the device is primarily intended as an advertising ,medium for business concerns, and the to providereasonable advertising space, and if desired the members 12 and 13 0f the handle may also used Vfor advertising In addition to a fan and score card, the :uw .invention is further the capacity of a megaphone by those who` z corner with coperating fastening elements 14, and provided with an 12 and 13 respectively. Subblade'15 is of suicient area100 For this puracross the latter `an srting shown in the drawing. he fastening means carried bv the blade this purpose maybe of any shape or form or s1ze without de from the spirit of the invention. hile thev blade in .a rolled condition may Sed as a megaphone independently of the for the convenience of handling ciated with the handle as shown.
association of these parts, the lblade initially rolled and secured in this tion, clamping elementV 14 prior to fastening the latter in its clamping position, or the blade in a flattened condition may be arranged upon the handle in a manner illustrated in may be condi- Fig. 9. In this instance, the clamping elet e l ment 14 extends lon itudinally of ade the member 13 in clamping position. Subsequent to this operation the blade canr be easily rolled and :the fastening elements 18 engaged to maintain the blade in its rolled condltion. The device in its entirety then used as a me aphone.
hile I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment ofthe invention, I desire to have it understood that -I do not vlimit asmuch as such changes may be resorted to `when desired as fall within the lscope of is claimed.
at I claim is 1. A combined fan and mega hone comprising a handle having a broadp extremity,
what
1a clamping velement rolled condition,
and then subsequently slipped over the is initially secured to myself in this connection, in-
'the extremity being slotted, a fan blade removably fitted within the slot, means for holding theblade in a rolled condition, and
enga e the blade -to hold the same upon the hand e in either a iiat or rolled condition.
'2., A combined fan and megaphone comprising a handle havin a, relatlvely broad en d portion, a fan bl e removably associated with the handle, a clampin element pivotally mounted-,upon the bro end portion, means for holding said blade in a said clamping element being adapted to with the handle in a rolled or flat condition, and means for securing the clamping element in clamp the broad end portion of the handle.
3. A device of the class described com rising a handle, a flat member capable o being rolled, and means for holding the mem'- ber upon the fine a fan, and in another position to provide afmegaphone. i ,g
4. A device of the class described compris'- ing a handle, l a flexible blade, means for maintaining the blade in a rolled condition,
'and' means for holdin 'the blade in either of two positions. upon t e handle to dene a fan or megaphone.
5. A device ofthe ing a handle, a fiat ing rolled, means for a rolled condition, the member upon the andle in one position fiat to provide azfan, and in. another position when rolled to provide a megaphone.
In testimony whereoffI aflix my signature. 4 GEORGE K. ASANO class described compris'- Inember capable ,of'beoldingthe member in means for holding hold the blade associatedrelation VWith respect tov handle in one position to deadapted to effectively
