TABLE COVER. APPLICATION FILED 1AN.I5, 1919- Patented Mar. 2,1920.

TABLE-COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Application filed January 15,- 1919. Serial No. 271,250.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN G. SULTANAKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Table-Covers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to table covers and has for its object the provision of a table cover which will have the general appearance of the ordinary table cover now in use but which embodies a table top covering portion of rubber or similar material which may be easily washed without removin the same from the table and which there ore may be kept in a sanitary condition, the table cover as a whole including a marginal portion apron or flap which is detachably connected with the marginal portion of the-top rubber section of the table cover, thereby enabling the two sections of the cover to be detached from each other for the purpose of laundrying such apron or flap portion.
With the above and. other objects in View the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement herein fully described, illustrated and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a broken plan of the table cover shown in its applied position upon atable.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical section through the same.
The improved table cojver contemplated in this invention comprises a main table top cover section 1 and a detachable section 2 which corresponds with the skirt or apron or flap portion of the ordinary table cover now in common use, the portion 2 being adapted to hang pendent from the edge of the table as shown in the drawing.
The section 1 of the table cover is formed of rubber or rubberized fabric, oil cloth or any like sheet material and the dimensions thereof correspond substantially with the dimensions of the top of the table.
The marginal portions 2 of the table cover may be composed of any suitable textile material such as that now used in the manufacture of table covers or cloths. The sections 1 and 2 of the table cover are connected detachably together by fastening means shown as consisting of the ordinary snap fasteners such as are used for glove fasteners. In order to apply the fasteners to the sections 1 and 2, it is preferred to secure the stud members 3 to the section 1 of the table cover by turning in the marginal portion of the section 1 and forming a hem 4t and inserting the fastening members 3 through the inner ply of said hem as clearly shown in Fig. 3, the head of the stud 3 proectmg beyond the inner surface of said inner ply of the hem 1. The other socket member 5 of the fastener is secured to the table cover section 2 the upper edge of which 1s preferably folded over and outwardly as shown in Fig. 2 and the fastening member 5 being inserted in the inner ply of such folded portion and secured in place in any suitable or usual manner.
From the foregoing description taken in ronnection with the accompanying drawing it will now be seen that the table cover sectlons may be readily separated from each other in order to enable the section 2 of the table cover to be laundried. The section 1 of the table cover may be thoroughly cleaned and kept in a sanitary condition by washing or rubbing the same with a damp cloth While in its position upon the table top. This will save considerable laundrying and require a less number of table cloths to be carried in eating places. hotels. restaurants and the like.
I claim A table cover comprising a main table top covering section of rubber sheetin having a marginal portion thereof turned lnwardly and hemmed, a pendent flap or skirt section having its upper marginal portion turned outwardly and downwardly, and snap fastening members secured to the inner adjacent plies of the table cover sections whereby said sections are detachably connected in operative relation.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JQl-IN G. SULTANAKI.
