Description
A. OBERG.
DRAFT FORMING ATTACHMEN on STOVEPIPES. I APPLICATION FILED MA 119']! 1,332,746, Patented Mar. 2,1920.
I"I'IAIIIVI"'I 6] Norm a ARN'I OBERG, 0F BERG, NORTH DAKOTA.
DRAFT-FORMING- ATTAGHMENT FOR STOVEPIPES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Application filed May 18, 1917. Serial No. 169,470.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARNT OBERG, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Berg, in the county of McKenzie and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draft-Forming Attachments for Stovepipes, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for stoves and furnaces and has particular reference to a means for establishing an even and uniform draft at increasing radiation.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned adapted to produce an even and uniform draft to a stove or furnace and at the same time prevent the wind from backing the smoke into the stove and consequently into the room as well as materially increase radiation.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a device of the character mentioned utilizing the initial heat of the stove for establishing a draft.
Other improvementsand novel details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of my invention will be brought out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof, and wherein is disclosed for the purpose of illustration convenient and satisfactory embodiments of the invention. It is to be noted, in this connection, that minor changes in the construction and arrangement of'the parts may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the principle of operation of the various parts.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View of my draft forming device, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a bracket used in connection with my invention.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates a cylindrical casing having both ends thereof open. A cross bar 2 is provided in the opposite ends of the casing and provided at the respective ends with outwardly directed attaohing flanges 3 adapted to engage the inner periphery of the cylindrical casing. The flanges 3 have openings concentrically thereof to receive disks 3 or other means to secure the same to the casing. A sheet metal ba-flie member designated 4 is spirally arranged longitudinally of the casing. The free ends of the baflie member 4: terminate in a horizontal plane as at 5 and 6.
A pair of pin members 7 and 8 are mounted in an aperture provided concentrically of the cross bar 2. The pin members are provided with enlargements 9 and 10 on the op posite sides of the cross bar 2 to retain the pins in the desired position thereon. The free ends of the pins are slit as at 11 to receive the free end of the spiral baffle.
It is obvious that after the fire is started the heat from the stove will cause the spiral bafiie to rotate and in that manner drawing on the stove will produce an even and uniform draft and at the same time will prevent the wind from backing the smoke into the stove and consequently into the room.
While I have herein illustrated and described with a considerable degree of particularity constructional details of the device embodying my invention, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the particular form and arrangement of the several parts which may be modified within a wide range without departing from the essence of the invention, the constructionshown and the description based thereon being intended to be taken in an illustrative rather than a limiting sense.
I claim:
The combination with a cylindrical casing, of a baffle strip spirally formed, arranged within the casing longitudinally thereof, cross bars secured at the ends of the casing and formed with central openings, and pins having their inner portions swiveled in the openings and outer ends bifurcated and engaged with the ends of the baflie strip for rotatably mounting the baflie in the casing.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature hereto.
ARNT OBERG.
