ADVERTISING DISPLAY DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
I Application filed. December 6, 1916'. Serial No. 135,431.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it ,known that I, J 'ULI-EN STRANDERS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Advertising Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in advertising display devices, and particularly display devices in the nature of show cards to be set up in connection with the goods to be displayed.
An object of the invention is to provide such a device which may be set up in such relation to, and supported by the goods to be advertised, as to provide for the goods an effective setting, and combining the goods and display device in such an attractive and conventional manner as to readilv attract interest and attention thereto. Another ob ject is to produce such a device from a single piece of cardboard, or other suitable ma terial, making its production comparatively economical, and which when not set up into display position, will be flat, thereby facilitating shipping and protecting the same against damage.
With these and other objects in view, an embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, and this embodiment will be hereinafter more fully described with reference thereto, and the invention will be finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of my invention, showing the same set up in display position,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device in its flattened position for storing or shipping,
Fig. 3 is a side view of the same set up, and
Fig. 4 is a front view thereof.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, a practical embodiment of my improved display device comprises a main display portion 10 having the general shape of an inverted insosceles triangle. The upper portion may be of any suitable contour, thus for instance, the corners may be cut as at 11 and 12, or
the same may have a shape to conform to the design of the advertising matter printed thereon. .At each side of the lower part of the portion 10 there are provided triangular supporting or strut portions 13 and 1 1, and .at the lower edges of the said strut portions, there are provided extensions or base portions 15 and 16 respectively.
Score lines 17 and 18 are provided between the main portion 10 and the strut portions, and score lines 19 and 20 are provided between the strut portions and the base portions 15 and 16. The ends of the base portions are preferably shaped as at 21 and 22 to conform to the outline of the articles to be displayed, to further enhance the attractive appearance of the device.
In setting up the device the portions 13 and 14 are turned back from the main portions so that their lower edges contact, and the base portions are bent up into flat position so that they extend outwardly from the sides of the strut portions, whereupon the articles 23 and 24c to be displayed are placed upon the said base portions, and against the sides of the main portion, thereby supporting the main portion in upright position. The main portion, it will be noted, assumes an inclined position in set up position, but this, it will be understood may be varied as desired by changing the direction of the score lines 21 and 22 with relation to the junction between the main portion and the portions '13 and 14. It is not essential that the main portion 10 extend entirely to the base portions.
I have illustrated and described a preferred and satisfactory embodiment of my invention, but it will be obvious that changes may be made therein within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An improved display device comprising a panel all parts of which are disposed in a common plane and having portions hingedly connected to one of its ends and adapted to be extended laterally therefrom in opposite directions and in parallel relation to and in contact with a supporting surface, said panel adapted for arrangement with the articles to be displayed at each side of the panel in contact therewith and disposed upon said hinged portions to thereby maintain the panel in an erect position.
2. An improved display device, comprising an upright main display portion supporting portions hingedly connected to said main display portion, extensions hingedly connected to the lowermost edge of said supporting portions, and constituting base portions adapted to extend laterally from said supporting portion With their under surfaces 1n engagement With the supporting surface for said device.
3. A display device comprising a main display portion, laterally disposed base means upon which the goods are adapted to be placed, and supporting means disposed between said base means and said main display portion, the engagement of the goods on the said base means serving to fix the position of said base means to thereby maintain said supporting-means in position to support said main display portion.
4. A display device, comprising a main display portion, supporting portions hingedly connected to said main portion at each side thereof, and base portions hingedly connected to said supporting portions and upon which the goods are adaptedto be placed to maintain said main display portion in erect position.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my lnventlon, Ihave slgned my name in presence of two subscrlblng Witnesses.
