UNITED siATEs PATENT onirica;
JOHN E. TALLEY AND JOHN W; THOMPSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
n DISPLAY APPARATUS.
T0 all fr0/wm t may concern Be it known that we, JOHN E. TALLEY and JOHN VVILMER THOMPSON, citizens of the United States, and residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certainv Improvements in Display Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to merchandise display cabinets for stores, warerooms, and the like, designed to support and protect garments and other articles displayed for sale, and tov dispose them in convenient position for examination and removal. Our improved structure may 'be employed as a unit cabinet or fixture, or the mechanism of the same may be employed in multiple in a larger cabinet or fixture designed to4 hold a plurality of the same. d
4 One object of. our invention yis to `provide a display cabinet'or unit fixture of this type with an improved formof support arranged totravel within the cabinet, and which may be either at the top of the same or at the bottom thereof, to .carry a revoluble member in either or both instances. When such support is disposed in the topY of the cabinet, a hanger frame will depend from the revolving member upon which garments and other articles may be suspended, while when the support is ldisposed in the bottom'of the cabinet or fixture, the revolving member may support a framefor rack upon which shelves of suitable type-glass, wood, or the like,- may be placed. In this instance, the frame or rack may be vertically extensible.
A further object of our invention is to provide friction catches for the traveling support so that it can not be accidentally displaced after being moved tothe normal inner position, or after it has beenmoved to the outer position when the door has been opened. Y v y And a still further object of our invention is to provide a traveling support or carriage .available for use at the top or bottom of the cabinet vby simple reversal with respect to tracks carried at top or bottom lthereof or, in some instances, in both places.;` such carriage beingof simple form and preferably made of a pair of plate members of theV same size and shape, top and'bottom. Each plate isprovided with a recesshaving a ball-race for the reception of anti-friction balls, upon which a revolving member or turn-table carrying the hanger frame for rotatable rack may be mounted. l
Specification of Letters vPatent. Patented Feb. 24, 1920. 1 applicati@ med Apri124, 1917. serial No. 164,211. v Y
These and other features of our invention are more fully described hereinafter, reference being had to the accompanying draw.g `in s, in which: y
' igure 1, is'arperspective View of a display cabinet fixture made in accordance with our invention.
Fig. 2, is a sectional elevation' of the same on the line II-r-II, Fig. l.'
Fig. 3, isa sectional elevation ofthe upper part of the structure at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4, is an inverted plan view thereof, Vin section on the line IV-IV, Fig. 3.
Fig.' 5, is a view of the lower portion of the `Structure illustrating `a modified arrangement within the scope of our invention.
Fig. 6, is an enlarged plan view of the carl rlalge. y Y f 1g. 7, is a sectional view Von the line VII-VII, Fig. 6, and l Y Fig. 8, is Van elevation, partly in section, of'an adjustable footforming part of Our invention. p
Our improved portable display fixture or cabinet comprises ka base frame 1, vof wood or other suitable material, with a suitable floor Vpanel 2, covering the same.. The top may 'be similarly constructed, excepting that va glass panel 2 is preferably employed with f the same, and between the base 'and top, suitable side and back frames 4 and 5are provided, which frames carry panels of wood, or glass panes 6, as may be desired.
At the front of the cabinet fixture, We prefer to provide a so-called, two-motion, receding door 7 which may be held in yposition by ball bearing casters (not shown) carried by thetop and bottom rails thereof;
such casters beingy arranged to operate yin grooved metal tracks 8, carried by the top and bottom frames. of the cabinet fixture, and in all general respects the structure may be builtin accordance with the usual store vcabinet fixtures of this general'type heretoof bracket rods 13, the outer ends olf-Which Y may be connected to a circular hanger rail 14, from which garments or other` articles ofmerchandise may be suspended by suitable means. channel irons which willv stiften the structure;-one flange of the same having its edge turned up for engagement by the wheels of the carriage. n
' Our improved carriage comprisesY a pair of metal plate sections15, of similar size and shape,'having a substantially square central portion 16,; each plate beingprovided with a circular aperture 17, andhaving lugslS, projecting from the four-cornersthereof. Theseveral'pair of lugs are .provided with semi-circular registering recesses for thereoption of shafts orl spindles 1'9, uporr which wheels 20 are mounted; collars .21,.be1nginterposed between the lugs land the wheelto proferly space theflatter.
' hes uared portions lot'each ot' the v.sections ma ingup the lcarriageare recessed at 22, to provide spaceV for lthe rotatable plate or turn-table 12, between which and-.thesed tions fanti-,friction lballs 23, are interposed g the respective plates being provided with suitable ball races2lf. yTheplates 15,.may be secured together' by bolts and ,nuts .'25a and. 26, passing through the body of the same at the cornersof the. squaredy portions; the lugs 18, being additionallysecured to'- gether by similar means indicated at -25 and 26, respectively.
Normally, the movable carriage 10, is centrally disposed within the casing of the cabinet fixture, yand it is preferably maintained in this position by suitable means. In'the present instance, the rails 11, are .shownas Vconnected by a cross piece 27, adjacent the center of the cabinet; thefsame Vserving to limit the inward movementot' the carriage;
and such cross-piece is preferably provided with'buii'er pads 28,-against which thelu'gs 18, of the carriage .may strike when vit is pushed into the cabinet. Adjacent `these buffer pads, we may provide springfingers 29, adapted to engagethe 111g. portions. of the carriage; the latter being preferably shaped as by recessing at 30,-.to facilitate such engagement, as clearly indicated in YFig 6. The spring fingers will `provide suiiicient friction to hold the carriage in relatively .fixed positionl so that the plate or turn-table 12, may be Vfreely vrotated .for the .purpose .of presenting toward the door opening .of the cabinet vany of .the garments or other merchandise .displayed .therein At-the front o'tliestructuresimlar. buier The rails may be ordinary pads 28a and spring iingers 29, may be provided, so that when the carriage is brought forwardtopartial-ly withdraw the hanger structure or other supporting means -andpermitready access thereto, it will be held against longitudinal movement on the -rails While the turn-table is rotated.
At the ends ofthe bracket rods 13, supporting the ring hanger 14, we provide tubular connections '31, to which depending rods may be attached if desired for any purpose; such connections 31, serving, when the structure is arrangedat the bottom of the display cabinet, asfindicatedin Fig. 5,to support rods..32, with telescopic extensions; which rods, Wellas their'telescopic'connections, maysupport shelves 33, of any suitable or desired characten In this instance, thc rods 32, securedtov thetubular connections are shown with 4rods '34,.telescoping within the sameand secured bysuit'able means as the thumb-screws .35. y'
