Be 1t known that I, GEORGE W. STAPLES, a

citizen of the United States of America, re-

siding at Mount Crawford,'in the'county of Rockingham and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dishel/Vashers, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to devices for washing or cleansing dishes and theinterior of bottles, drinking glasses and the like.

Its principal object is to provide a device ofthis kind which may be attached on the top of a table, so that adish pan may be placed under it to permit the vital parts of the machine to be operated above the dish P A further object of the invention is to provide detachable mop and brush members with an efficient means for rotating them whereby the cleansing operation on dishes may be economically performed.

A still further object is to provide a device of this kind which is simple in construction, durable and effective in operation and which may be manufactured at lowcost.

Other andv further objects will appear in the following description.

To the eXact embodiment in which the invention is shown, it is not to be restricted.

Actual -practical application may make mani fest certain desirable changes or alterations and the right is claimed to make any which no not deviate from the scope of the subjoined claim.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention in operative position over a dish pan which is shown in section.

Referring to the drawings, there is indicated at 1 the top surface of a table on which the device is attached. The device comprises essentially a frame 2, whose legs 5 and 6 terminate in the feet 3 and 4 respectively which provide means for attaching the frame to the table. The foot 3 is slotted in the direction of the length of the frame providing a recess 7 while the foot 4 is slotted in the direction of the width of the frame, thus leaving the recess 8.

At a point below the top of the frame 2, a longitudinal member 11 is attached between the inner faces of the legs 5 and 6 and this member is designed to receive and support the spindles 412- both of which have their .upper ends journaled in the memberI 11,

through which these upper ends pass to receive the bevel gears 13.` v Y yA shaftv 14 is journaled in both the vlegs 5 and 6 and between the member 11 andthe upper end of the frame 2, the shaft being prevented from longitudinal movement by a 'detachable collar 15 which abuts the outerv face of the leg 5 and by a crank 16 whose hub abuts the outer face of the leg 6. The shaft 14 carries bevel gears 17 so positioned on it as to mesh with the gears 13 and to drive the latter when `the shaft 14 is turned.

The spindles 12 are boredy longitudinally on the ends remote from the gears 13 and these bored portions of the spindles provide sockets for receiving the stems of the brush member 18 and mop member 19, these stems and their attendant brush and mop being held in place in the sockets by thumb screws 20 which thread radially through the spindles 12 and bear upon the stems. The loosening of either thumb screw 20 will permit the removal of either the brush or the mop so that two mop members may be used by replacing the brush member with a mop or two brush members by replacing the mop member by a brush or any other suitable combination which is desired.

In thev use of the device. the frame 2 is attached to the table 1 as aforesaid, when a suitable dish pan containing the dishes to be washed is placed below the washing members 18 and 19. the legs 5 and 6 of the frame being a sufficient distance apart to permit the placing of the wash pan between them. The crank 16 is then turned. thus imparting rotary motion to the brush 18 and mop 19 both of which run at relatively high speed, because of a relatively high gear ratio existing between the gears 17 and 13. The dishes being cleansedV are brought individually against the brush member'lS which serves to clean off all dirt. The same dish may then be wiped dry by the mop member 19 if the latter has not been used for cleansing and dishes while the brush is used for cleansing bottles and the like, f f

Further ,the ydevicemay be used first for cleansing the dishes and thereafter used for drying the same, the cleansin mop' and y brush being removed after the vc eansing operation by the loosening of the thumb screws 20 and replaced by suitable reserve lmops similar to the mop 19 which reserveY mops may be used for performing the drying operation.
