Be it'known that We, HARRIS. HULEN and CHARLEsF. BROWN, citizens of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Im-. provements in Silo-Doors, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to silo doors and more especially to hinge. and fastening means therefor, and the object of the in vention is. to produce eflicient and at the same time simple, strong, durable and economical devices of the character set forth.

To this end the invention consists, in certain novel and useful features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter described and claimed; and in'order that it may be fully understood reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1, is an outer face view of a segment of a silo equipped with a door embodying the invention.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged horizontal section on the line Ill-II of Fig. 1.'

Fig. 3, is a detail perspective view of a clamping lever for the door.

Referring to the drawing in detail, 1-1 indicates the two side bars of a segment of the silo, and 2 are horizontal bars connecting bars 1 at regular intervals from the bottom to the top'of the silo, it being understood that the latter is composed of a series of said segments arranged in a circle, all of the segments being completely boarded up with staves except the one adapted for the reception of the doors, which one has a series of superposed door openings 2*. The particular construction of the silo is of no importance .in this connection however as it is covered by patent, and also because this invention is applicable to any silo provided with a series of superposed openings of suitable size and form for the reception of the doors.

The doors for the openings may be of any suitable construction, but preferably consist of rectangular frames for fitting within the openings, and flooring boards secured vertically to such frames and projecting marginally beyond the same sufiiciently to completely cover the openings and bear against the inner sides of the vertical bars SILO-DOOB.

The part 6 of the hinge is the pivot for door movement and is journaled in hinge straps 11 secured within the door opening to one of. the side bars 1, each strap being secured at one end by screws or bolts 12 and at the other end by embedment in the said side bar, as at 13.

To secure the door firmly in place and clamp it against the inner side of the silo, a plate 14 is securedto the outer side of one of the vertical 'bars 4 of the frame, for engagement with a lug 15 secured to the inner side of the bar 1, at the free edge of the door, and an angle lever 16 is pivoted to the vertical bar 4 at the hinge edge of the door for engagement with the part 8 of the hinge frame, the lever having a beveled or cam surface 17 to facilitate engagement with said .part and the application of increasing force thereon to draw the door outward until the flooring boards thereof are clamped firmly {against the bars 1 and 2, around the open- 7 ing and exclude air and water from the silo.
