LETTER-OUTLINER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EARL W. Hown, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk, State of Virginia, have invented a new and useful Letter-Outliner; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full. clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to letter outliners and has for its object to provide a letter outliner so that those not skilled in lettering may form the outline of various letters quickly, after which the letters may be filled in easily and quickly by one unskilled in lettering.

A further object is to construct a letter outliner from a single piece of sheet metal rectangular in shape and to provide the outline of a letter formed from a series of apertures, said apertures being adapted to have a piece of material, such as cord, tape or the like rove through the apertures for the re ception of a markin fluid or materia that the outline of a letter may be impressed or stamped in any place desired.

A further object is to provide a letter outliner comprising a body member preferably rectangular in shape and having integral lugs bent inwardly on its rear face for the reception of lugs, carried by a handle, the handle comprising right angle arched members arching each other, one of said arched members being bent centrally so as to form a lug for engaging the central portion of the body member thereby forming 111821118 for applying pressure centrally of the body member simultaneously with the application of pressure to the marginal edges of the body member so as to get a uniform impression. The arched members forming the handle being preferably formed of spring material so that the lugs thereof may be sprung into and out of engagement with the lugs carried by the rear face of the body member, thereby allowing the same handle member to be-applied to various body members having various letters or designs thereon.

With the above and other objects in view the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention may be made within the scope of what is Specification of Letters Patent.

Referring to the drawings, the nmneral .1. designates a metallic body member and series of L-shaped lugs carried at opposite sides of the body member and overlying the rear face of the body member, thereby forming recesses 3 for the reception of the lugs 4 carried by the arched members 5 which form a handle for the body member.
