, Application filed June 16, 1919. Serial No. 304,494.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY L, FnRRIs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harvard, in the county of McHenry and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Water-Bowls, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates. to certain new and useful improvements in water bowls and is fully described and explained in the specification and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved device; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a valve containing member with the bowl removed;
Fig. 4 is a rear elevation of bowl; Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 of Fig. 3; Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6 of Fig. 3; Fig. 7 is a section on the line 7 of Fig. 1; Fig. 8 is a section on the line 8 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 9 is a section on the line 9 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 10 is a vertical member such as is frequently found in stall construction. 11 is a vertical tubular member screwed to the lower endof a water sup ply pipe 12, and held against rotationby a collar 13 clamped to the pipe and engaging, between lugs 14 formed upon it, a rib 15 on the rear of the vertical member 11. The member may be further braced by a splitcollar 16 clamped on the member 10 and having forward extensions bent into channel form to engage and grip a rib 17 on the member 11. This mode of clamping the member 11 against rotation is particularly firm, and can be employed in all those cases where the stall construction has, as in the case illustrated, a vertical post 10 in line with the bowl, but in many cases the structure of the stall will require the omission of the clamp 16, and the clamp 13 alone will be relied upon. If the clamp 16 is employed the clamp 13 might be omitted ifdesired.
The verticalmember 11 has a transverse portion 18 which receives a nipple 19 closed by a valve 20 held toward its closed position by a spring 21 surrounding a valve stem 22 V which can be pressed backward by a pivoted valve-operating member 23. This member is pivoted upon ears provided one. deflecting plate 24 bolted to the member 11 and adapted to turn water issuing from the valve downward.
portion 30 lying along side of one of the flanges and provided with a'knob 31 and a tip 32, also passed through a perforation in Specification of Letters Paten t; Patented {Pg-b 10, 192E), I
one of the flanges and adapted to engage a depression 33 in the vertical member 11. This depression 33 has communicating with it a beveled extension 34 the purpose of which will be apparent.
The water bowl can readily be removed for cleaning and emptying by withdrawing the pin from engagement with the depression 33, thus permitting the lower end of the bowl to be swung out and the lugs 26 to be disengaged' The bowl can be replaced by placing the lugs 26 in proper position and pushing the lower end of the bowl in, -'the pin 32 riding up on the incline 01' beveled portion 34 and dropping into the depression 33.
I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of the construction herein shown, and I do not intend to limit myself thereto, except as pointed out in the following claims, in which it is my intention toclaim all the novelty inherent in the device as broadly as is permitted by the state of the art.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In combination a vertical member, a vertical water supply pipe carried by said first-named member, a valve-containing member threaded to said water supply pipe, a water bowl carried by thevalve-eontaining member, a collar carried by the water supply pipe provided with spaced lugs, and a projection on the valve-containing member withwhich said lugs engage to prevent ro1 parts with relation to each the bowl adapted to engage in a depression in the valve containing member to releasably hold said bowl in place.
3. In combination a valve containing member, a valve and a Water bowl and means for detachably securing the bowl to the valve containing member and'comprising flanges on the bowl embracing the valve containing member, lugs on the flanges engaging proj ections on the valve containing member and 10 a pin movable transversely to said flanges and extended through'one of them to engage a depression in the valve containing member to releasably hold said bowl in place.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set 15 my hand and seal this 5th day of June, 1919,
. HENRY L. FERRIS. [Lit]
