IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-CARRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,998, dated November 12, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENONI YAW, of New Concord, in the county of Muskingum and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Butter-Carriers, of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to so construct a chest for carrying and storing butter in prints or rolls that ready access may be had to the interior as well as to the different shelves for purposes of inspection or removal. My improvement consists in providing the chest with a hinged front as well as a hinged top, and in the use of sliding shelves and lattices; any particular one (the butter upon which it is intended to inspect' or remove) may be drawn out, after the front has been opened, without disturbing any one of the rest of the shelves.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved butter-chest. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof.
The same letters of reference are used in both figures in the designation of identical parts.
The chest illustrated in the annexed drawing is of rectangular form, and is provided with the ordinary hinged top. The principal part of the front side is also hinged, as at A, so that it may be let down in the manner illustrated in Fig. l to expose the shelves B. These shelves are fitted in grooves in the sides of the chest, and are capable of being slid in and out. The number of the shelves will be commensurate with the height of the chest, and each one should be provided with a hand hole or handle to facilitate its manipulation.
The prints or rolls of butter are placed upon the different shelves; and when it becomes desirable to remove any, or to inspect their condition, it may readily be done by letting down the front and drawing out the particular shelf wanted.
In some cases it is very desirable to keep the prints or rolls permanently separated in the chest, to accomplish which I use a lattice, 0, containing cells of the required dimensions, and placed loosely upon the shelves, but which is held firmly in position by the sides of the chest when it is closed. The front of the chest is fastened when closed by hooks and staples, or in any other convenient manner, and is provided with a lock in its top edge in the usual way, so that the chest may be locked.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A butter-carrier having a hinged top, and a hinged front, A, to let down, in combination with the sliding shelves B and lattices 0, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
