Description
UNITED STATES PATENT Grrrcn.
GEORGE M. PRIME, OE EL DORADO, ARKANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT- m WASH-BOILERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,979, dated November 12, 1872.
El Dorado, in the county of Union and State of Arkansas, have invented a new and Improved Wash-Boiler, of which the followingis a specification:
My invention consists of a combination of wire-coils with the nozzles, through which the water is discharged into the space containing the clothes from the conductors, through which the hot water and steam are forced up from the heating-chamber below, which said coils maintain channels between the clothes which are packed around them, so as to facilitate-the circulation of the steam and water, and equalize and increase their effectiveness. The invention also consists of the arrangement of the check-valves and their adjuncts on a removable cover of the hole in the false bottom to facilitate the cleaning of the heating-chamber.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved wash-boiler, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line y y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is a wash-boiler, which maybe of any approved construction and arrangement for causing the hot water and steam to flow up from a heating-chamber, B, at the bottom through channels or conductors O to discharge through nozzles or passages D of any kind into the space E among the clothes. I propose to combine coiled wires F with these nozzles or passages D in the manner indicated in the drawing or in any approved way, so that they may be packed between or in the clothes when they are put in said space E, so that they will maintain channels for the water to circulate more freely and with better eflect among the clothes than when packed in the ordinary way without such devices, as they obstruct the escape of the water from the said nozzles or holes, and prevent it from escaping between them. I prefer to attach the said coils to the nozzles, or to the walls of conductors 0, coincident with the openings, but they may be used separately with good results, being laid on the clothes as they are packed in the boiler and taken out with them. I may use perforated metal tubes instead of the wire-coils, but I prefer the latter. I propose to have win g-valves G for letting the water into the chamber B and retaining it to force it up through the passages O, said valves being hinged to a plate, H, which is laid on the false bottom I over a hole, through which the valves work downward, so that it can be readily removed for cleaning out the heating-chamber. A guard, K, is attached to the under side of this plate to limit the opening of the valves, and another guard, L, is placed 011 the upper side to prevent the clothes from choking up the passage.
Having thus described iny invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of the wire-coils F or their equivalent, with the nozzles or other discharge devices of the vertical passages 0, substantially as specified.
2. The wing-valves G, attached to a removable cover, H, of the false bottom I, having the guard K and L, substantially as specified.
GEORGE M. PRIME.
