ROLLING MILL GUIDE. APPLICATION FILED JULY 25.1919.

2 SHEETSSHEET 2.
"Uuirnn STATES "PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE G. BEIREVIF H, OF CANTON, OHIO.
RGLLIE G-JVEILL GUIDE.
Application filed July 25, 1919.
Tb all whom it may concern Be it known that 1. G1 G. Bnmwm'rri, a citizen or the U11 i .tes, residing at Canton, in the county of mark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Rolling-l/lill Guide, of which the following a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rolling mill guides and more particularly to the construction of? the guide rest bars and guide plates.
The objects of the invention are to improve the construction of guides for rolling mills, to prevent the sheets or plates as they pass from the mill from accidentally displacing the guide plates, thus preventing serious accident to the mill workers; and to generally simplify and improve rolling mill guides.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter escril'ied, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being; understood that various changes in the form, proportions, size and minor details of: construction may be made within the scope of the appended claims, without departing t' u the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages oi? the invention.
The invention thus set forth in general terms is illustrated the accompanying drawings Forming part hereof, in which Figure 1. is a vertical sectional view through a rolling mill provlded with my guide.
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of one of the guide plates.
3 is a detail perspective view of one of the catchers.
4: is a detail perspective view 01" one of the brackets which carries the guides.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of modified form of guide bar.
A practical embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The rolls 1. housin 2 and base members 3 are of any well knon construction, the housing being slidably mounted upon the base members in the usual manner.
The forwardly curved bracket 4- is pro- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
Serial No. 313,375.
vided with a b so plate 5 and with a down wardly disposed rib 6 which is located in the slot 7 of the adjacent base member, the upper end of said bracket being provided with a rest bar 8 within the upper face of which is proi-ided a groove v9 which is curved downwardly and rearuardly in cross section as shown in 0. bolt 10 is passed through the base plate oi the bracket and connects the bracket to the adjacent base member.
The g ride plate 11 "s preferably bifurcated at its rear end as shown at 12 and provided with the downimrdly and rearwa-rdly curved edge 13 designed to fit within the groove 9. The rear side of the rest bar 8 is provided with the sockets l-l adapted to accommodate the down-turned ends 15 of the horns 16.
A modified form oi? the device is shown in 5 which the rest bar 17 takes the place of the rest bar 8, said rest bar being provided at its extremities with the reduced lugs 18 arranged to be received in suitable sockets in the housing of the mill. This rest bar is provided with a groove 19, similar to the groove 9 in the rest bar 8 and with sockets 20 similar to the sockets 14; in the rest bar 8.
ll ith the usual term of guide plates accicnts are frequently caused by a sheet or emerging from the rolls forcing the plate out of contact with the rest bar a causiu serious injury to the workmen.
5- .cl ideuts are usually caused by one plate 0 \VhlCl'l having passed from the v of the guide plate forcing it went with the rest bar and enno lives of any workmen in the th mill. With the present con- .upossible tor a sheet or plate p o; from the rolls to tip the end of the since plate up in the manner above descr ed and tl" is done ,1? of forcing the guide plate out 01? the mill is obviated, the curved 1? oi the guide plate fitting snugly .u the curved groove 9 and preventing ntal displacement of the guide plate. anough the drawings and above specilicati .n disclose the best mode in which I have contemplated embodying my invention 2 messes I desire to be not limited to the details of such disclosure, for, in the i'urther practical application of my invention, many changes in form and construction may be made, as circumstances require or experience suggests, without departing from the spirit of the invention, Within the scope of the appended claims.
1. A guide for rolling mills including a rest bar provided with a downwardly and rearwz'irdly curved slot and a guide plate provided with a downwardly and rear- -arclly curved edge located Within said slot.
2. In a rolling mill, a base plate a forwardly curved bracket mounted upon said base plate, a rest bar located at the upper end of said bracket and provided with a downwardly and rearwardly curved slot and a guide plate provided with a downwardly and rearvmrdl; curved edge located in said slot.
A guide for rolling mills including a rest bar provided with a downwardly and rearwardly curved slot, a guide plate having a downwardly and rearwardly curved edgeiitting in said slot and a pair of horns connected to the rear side of said rest bar.
i. In a rolling mill, a slotted base menilJGL a rnardl u curved bracket provided with a rib located Within the slotted base mener. rest bar located at tl e upper end of said bracket, said 11- t bar provided with a downw idl and rcarwardly curved slot and a guide plate provided with a down- Wardlv and rearvmrdly curved edge l mite-Ll in said slot.
In testimony that I claim the abo e, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
