Application fled 10. 1919. Serial No. 296,046.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY M. Coupon, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albany, in State of-New new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in toys, and has for its object to provide a toy in the form of a wheeled vehicle havin a seat for an occu ant and having means or tossing a ball rom the front of the vehicle to the occupant in the seat, and for guiding the ball back tothe front of the vehicle, said tossing'means being spring controlled and being movable into position to toss the ball by the occupant of the seat.
In the drawings:
' Figure 1 is a side view of the improved so Fig. 2 is a top plan view. In the present embodiment of the invention, the vehicle comprises a body 1 in the form of a plate of suitable size having bolsters 2 at its ends, to which are connected axles having wheels 3 on their ends. A seat 4 is arranged above the body of the vehicle, the said seat being supported by braces 5, and [this seat is approximately half "th length of the bod of the vehicle. 1
An arm 6 of channel shape is pivoted to the body just in front of the front end of the seat, as indicated at 7, anda coil spring 8 is arranged between this arm and the adjacent-brace 5, the spring acting normally to swing the arm upward into the dotted line position of Fig. -1. f
The arm is drawn downward by a cord 9 which passes from the free end of the arm through eyes 10 at the front end and'on the under face of the body, and thence upward-1y through an opening 11 in the .body to a connection with the'seat, as indicated at 12, in
' such position that it will be convenient to the grasp of the occupant of the seat.
This arm 6 is as before stated, shaped, having the channel rearwardly, and it isadapted to receive a ball 13, the ball, whenthe arm is in the full line position of Figs. 1 and 2, resting at the outer end of the arm thechannel. It will be obvious that when Z the arm is released by releasing the string 9, the spring 8 will throw the arm up into the dotted. line ition of Fig. 1 and the ball will be to the occupant of the seat. By means of the string the am my the county of Albany and York, have invented certam channel be returned to set position, that is, to the full line position of Fig. 1, and the ball may be returned to the channel of the arm by means of a trough or chute 14 which leads from the seat to the rear end of the arm 6 when. the said arm is in downward or set position. This chute extends through a notch 15 in the side of the seat to a position convenient for the rider to drop the ball therein. y
In operation, the occupant of the seat may draw the arm downwardly into the position of Fig.1, and when the ball is dropped into the chute it will roll to the front end of the arm. When the string is released, it being understood that the arm is held lowered by traction on the string, the arm will be flung upward and the ball will be tossed backward to the occupant of the seat.
Referring -to the drawing, it will be noticed that the ends of the bolster 2 are provided with screw eyes 20, with which are connected the ends of a cord 21. By means the same, an arm hinged to the body at the front of the seat and adapted to swing down upon the body or upward into vertical position against the forward end of the seat, a
spring normally pressing the arm upward, said arm being channel shaped and being adapted to receive a ball to-be tossed to the occupant of the seat by the upward movement of the arm, means adjacent to the occupant of the seat for drawing the arm down, and a chute leading from the-seat to the lower end of the arm and registering with the channel of the arm when the arm is lowered.
2. A device of the character specified comprising a wheel supported body, a-seat at the rear of the body, an arm hinged to the I body at the front of the seat and adapted to swing down upon the body orupward into vertical position against the forward end, of the seat, a spring normally pressing the am upward, said arm being channel shaped, and
being adapted to receive a ball to be tossed to the occupant of the seat by the upward movement of the arm, and means adjacent to the occupant of the seat for drawing the arm down.
3. A device of the characters ecified ccmshaped and being adapted to receive a ball prising a wheel supported b0 'a seat at to be tossed t0 the occupant of the seat by 10 {3:1 rear 6; tlfle body alnarmthmgeddto thg the upward movement of the arm.
