2 SHEETSSHEET Z- EDWARD ANDERSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ADJUSTABLE AND KNOCKDOWN WIN DOW-SEAT.
Application filed June 5, 1919.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD ANDERSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable and Knockdown Window-Seat, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
rlhe object of the invention is to provide a new and improved adjustable and knockdown window seat more especially designed for safely accommodating a person washing the window. Another object is to per mit of conveniently adjusting the window seat to windows of different width and construction. Another object is to enable the user to readily attach the seat to a window or to remove the same therefrom after use. Another object is to permit of readily disassembling the parts and forming the same into a small bundle for convenient shipping or storing purposes.
With these and other objects in view, the
l invention consists of certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the adjustable and knockdown window seat as applied to a window;
Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view of the same on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional plan view of a ortion of the window seat, and a modified orm of attaching means for attaching the window seat to a wooden window frame.
A platform 10 for the user to sit on is provided with bearings l1 in which is adjustably mounted a crossbar 12, preferably made in two sections 13 and 14, provided at their outer ends with the pins 15 and 16 adapted to engage keepers 17 and 18 attached to the stop beads 19 of the window casing 2O a distance above the sill 21. The rear end of the platform 10 rests on the top of the crossbar sections 13 and 14 and the latter are provided with registering slots 25, 26 extending lengthwise and through Specification of Letters Patent.

which pass clamping bolts 27 held in the bearings 11 to permit of fastening the platform 10 in position on the crossbar 12 and to fasten the sections 13 and 14 of the cross-v bar 12 together after the pins 15 and 16 have been engaged with the keepers 17 and 18. Each of the bolts 27 is preferably provided at its inner end with a suitable handle 28 to ena'ble the user to conveniently turn the bolt, the nut 29 of which en ages the front face of the section 13, and t is nut is held against turning by the corresponding bearing 11 thus permitting the user on turning the handle 28 to conveniently fasten the parts together as above described, or to loosen the same to allow of sliding the crossbar sections 13 and 14 toward each other with a view to disengage the pins 15 and 16 from the keepers 17 and 18.
The under side of the platform 10' is provided with transversely extendin dovetail guideways 40` slidably and detac ably engaged by `T-heads 41 of platform supports 42, having their lower edges provided with cut-out portions 43 to lit the window sill 21 thus firmly supporting the platform 10 from the window sill 21. It will be noticed that by the arrangement described the platform 10 is held against outward movement by the crossbar 12 attached to the Window frame, and the platform 10 is firmly supported on the supports 42 resting on the window sill 21.
For some windows it is desirable to attach the crossbar 12 lto the inner faces ofthe window frame 20, as plainly shown in Fig. 4, and for this purpose use is made of threaded keepers 50 attached to the window casing and adapted to be engaged by thumbscrews 51 extending through apertures 52 formed in the outer ends of the sections 13 and 14 of the crossbar 12; otherwise the construction is the same as above described so that further description of the same is not deemed necessary.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An adjustable and knockdown window seat, comprising a crossbar made in adjustable sections and extending across the window above the sill thereof, means for detachably fastenin the outer ends of the sections of the cross ar to a window frame, a platform provided with bearings slidably engaging the said crossbar, clamping bolts held on the said bearings and engaging the said sections to fasten the platform in position on the crossbar and to fasten the sections of the crossbar together, transverse guideways on the under side of the platform, and seat supports slidably and detachably engagingr the .said guidevvays andl` adapted to resten the Window sill.
Q. An adjustable and knockdovvn Window seat, comprising a crossbar made in slotted sections adjustable lengthwise one on the other,y keepers adapted to be attached to a Window casing above the sill thereof, attach-v ing members on the outer ends of the said bars and adapted to engage the said keepers, i5
erOssbar, clamping bolts mounted on the said bearings and extending through the slots of the saidcr-.ossbar sections to fastenthe platform toy the crossbar and to fasten the sections of the crossbar together, transverse guideways attached toy the under side ofthe platform, a'nd seatsupports slidablyf nd detachably.v engaging the saidguidevvlaysy and adaptedto ,rest on the window Sill. l
