have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'Fountain-Humidor-Box-Lid Supports; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Our invention relates to improvements in constructions forl supporting` the lids of boxes in the open position,l being more especially intended for use in connection with cigar boxes, the lids of which are left open in cigar cases, in order to display the cigars, and also the labels or trade marks, 'which are usually applied to the inner surface of the box lids. Furthermore, our improved device maintains the box closed and consists of a vertical extension applied to the top of the box, which extension is equipped at the rear with grooves or ways which the opposite end edges of the box lid engage. These ways slidingly engage the lid of the box in such a manner that the extension may be applied to the lid when the latter is in the uio-raised or'vertical position. The device may also be removed in the same way.

Our object is to provide a device of this character which shall be simple in construction, economical in cost, reliable, durable and eiiicient in use. It should be stated that the box extension is composed mainly oftransparent material, as glass, in order that the cigars maybe visible when the device is in place.

Having briefly outlined our improved construction, we will proceed to describe the same in detail, reference being made to the accompanying drawing, in which 'is' illustrated an embodiment thereof.

In this 'drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cigar box equipped with our improvement, the lid being in the open position.

Fig. 2 is a cross section' of the same, our improvement being shown in two positions; one in full lines and the other in dotted lines.

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the box lid and humidor support, shown in detail.

Let the numeral 5 designate a cigar box of ordinary construction, the same' being provided with a hinged lid 6, which may be I connected with the box in the usual or -any suitable manner. Applied to the upper edge of the box is a verticaly extension 7 consisting of front and rear members 8 and 9, end members 10 and a top member. These members are composed of glass pieces12, which are connected` with metal strips 13, which are formed in any suitable manner to properly hold the glass parts', both at their upper and lower and end edges. These glass pieces may be secured to the metal parts in any suitable manner to form a rigid construction. It is therefore, not thought necessary to describe this feature more in detail. To the rear member 9 at its opposite ends, are secured channel members 14, which are open to receive the end edges 15 of the box lid when the device is in use. By virtue of this feature, the box extension may be applied to the lid when the latter isvopen, or in the vso position shown in Figs. 1 and 2, as will be readily understood. It isv also removable therefrom by reversing 'the movement employed in applying it. The end members 10 slightly, in order to allow the parts 17 to enter the opening 16 of the standards 15.

It will be understood that when the'device is in use, or applied to the boX, as shown in Figs. l and 2, the boX may be opened for the purpose of removing the cigars by simply tilting the lid backwardly to a suitable inclination, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, since the use of the device does not interfere with the hinging action of the lid.

Vhile the humidor may be of any suitable construction, we prefer to employ the device illustrated in the drawing, and best shown in Figs 4 and 5.

This device consists of a metal tube 20 which is closed at one end by a wall 21,

. its opposite end being equipped with areduced eXteriorly threaded nozzle 22, which is open for the introduction of the necessary water for moistening purposes. This nozzle is closed by a screw cap 23 when the device is in use. One of the end members 18 is secured to the end wall 21, while the other is secured to the screw cap 23.

This tube 20 is provided with` an opening 24, preferably formed in the part of the tube which is uppermost when the humidor is .supported in position, as illustrated in the drawing. A wick or piece of fibrous material of any kind is inserted in the tubel through the opening 24C. This wick is indicated by the numeral 25, and is best illustrated in Fig. 5, where a portion of the wick is within the tube, while other portions eX- tend outside of thev tu'be and are carried along the same to its opposite ends, as shown at 26. The liquid within the tube passes through the wick or fibrous member 25 by capillary attraction, and is supplied by the outer portions 26 of the wick to an absorb-` ent member 27 appliedV to the tube externally, and which may be composed ofasbestos, or other suitable or similarmaterial. `To this asbestos layer 27 is applied a perforated metallic member 28, through which the moisture with which the part 27 is saturated, may evaporate and come' in direct contact with the cigars.

From this description,.it willbe understood that ampleprovision is made to prevent any liquid from escaping from the tube,

except in the form of vapor, and thenonly in such quantities as may be necessary to perform the cigar moistening function.

From the foregoing description the use of our improved devicewillbe readily understood. Assuming that the article is,l con structed and that the humidor has been applied thereto, as shown in Figs. l; and 2,

It should be explained that both the asbestos cover 27 and the perforated metal cover 28 are composed of bent or rolled rectangular sheets, their free side edges Ibeing spaced or open to permit expansion, as may be requiredin putting them i'n place. The perforated metal member is also capable of contraction, whereby it may be caused to hug or cling to the asbestos cover sufliciently close'ly to hold the latter in its proper position.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:

1. A display device comprising` an inverted box-like member adapted to fit the top of a boX whose contents are to be displayed and open tov communicate with the interior of the box, the side and top walls of the member being transparent, and means positioned on opposite sides of the member and within the member to support a humidor above the top edges of the boX and within the limitsv of the member whereby the llumidor requires none of the space of the 2. A display device comprising an inverted member adapted to lit the top of a boX whose contents are to be displayed and open to communicate with the interior of the boX, the side and top walls of the member being transparent and the side walls being adapted to lie respectively in the same vertical planes as the walls of the boX, and

means positioned on the inner sides of the walls of said member to support a humidor above the top edges of theboX and within the limits of the member whereby the humi dor requires none` of the space of the .box`
