III!
ZI-IE'ILEY V. MATTHEWS, OF CHARLESTON, WASHINGTON.
KITCHEN-FIXTURE.
Application filed April 12, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, ZHn'rLEY V. MAT- 'il-IEWS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charleston, in the county of Kitsap and State of WVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Kitchen-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in kitchen cabinets of the hinged bin type.
An important object of the invention is to provide a cabinet of the character described adapted to effectively exclude all insects, water, and other destructive elements from the interior of the same.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cabinet of the character described, which is simple to install, of highly simplified construction, and durable in use,
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
Inthe accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective of a bin embodying my invention, showing the same arranged in a frame,
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the bin supporting frame, having a dust cover carried thereby, and,
Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on line 4% of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a wall or cabinet in which a rectangular frame 11 is arranged. A pair of vertically disposed supporting elements 12 are electrically welded or otherwise secured to the inner vertical edge portions of the frame 11. The lower end of the supporting members 12 carry reduced extensions 13 having a transverse angle bar 11 connecting their lower ends for providing a rigid structure.
A bin 16 is hingedly arranged within the frame 11 and is adapted for the reception of such food as flour. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the bin comprises front and rear walls 17 and 18 respectively. The front and rear Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 6, 1920.
Serial No. 289,576.
The angle bar 26 has threaded engagement with adjustable feet 27 The feet 27 are adapted for controlling the position of the bin when in a closed position.
As illustrated in Fig. 3, the supporting members 12 have connection with a relatively fiat dust cover 28. The dust cover 28 is riveted or otherwise secured as at 29 to the upper ends of the supporting members 12 and is connected at its ends to angularly disposed braces 30. The inner end portions of the angularly disposed braces 30 are provided with elongated slots 31 receiving adjusting screws 32. The elongated slots 31 permit of the adjustment of the dust cover 28 to a proper position with relation to the bin 16.
A .suitable handle 33 is attached to the bin 16. The outer sides of the frame may be of any suitable design.
In installing my improved bin in a cabifiet or for the reception of the same. With reference to Fig. 1 it will be apparent that the adjusting feet 27 may be arranged to bring the front side of the bin flush with the frame when the bin is closed.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is 'understood that I may make such minor changes in arrangement and construction of parts as will remain within the spirit of the invention and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A bin comprising a frame; vertically disposed supporting members carried by the inner side of said frame; a transverse hinge rod connecting said vertically disposed supporting members; a bin adapted to be arranged within said frame; hinge bearings carried by the side walls of the bin and adapted to be arranged upon said hinge rod; and adjustable elements carried by the inner lower ends of the side walls of said bin and adapted for regulating the position of the bin when the same is closed.
2. An apparatus of the character described comprising a frame; a pair of supporting members secured to the inner side of the frame, and having the lower ends thereof reduced; a hinge rod connecting the lower end portions of said supporting members; a bin adapted to be arranged in said frame and having hinged connection with said hinge red, the bottom of said bin being spaced upwardly from the lower ends of the side walls of the same; and adjustable elements carried by the inner lower edge portions of the side walls of said bin.
3. A bin of the character described comprising a frame; a pair of vertically disposed supporting members secured to the inner side of said frame and having the lower end portions thereof extending below the plane of said frame; a bin. adapted to be arranged within said frame and having hinged connection with said supporting members, the side walls of said bin eXtending below the plane of the bottom thereof, a transversely disposed angle brace carried by the lower ends of said side walls of said bin; an adjustable element having screw threaded engagement with said angle brace and adapted for controlling the position of said bin when closed.
4. A bin of the character described commembers and hingedly supporting said bin;
a dust cover connected to the upper ends of said supporting members; a pair of angu-' larly disposed arms connected at their rear end portions to said dust cover, said arms having elongated slots in their forward ends; and adjusting nuts carried by said supporting members and extending through the elongated slots in said arms.
5. A bin of the character described comprising a frame; a pair of vertically disposed supporting members secured to the inner side of said frame adjacent its outer vertical edge; a bin arranged within said frame and having its side walls extending below the plane of the bottom thereof; a transverse hinge rod connected to said sup porting members and hingedly supporting said bin; adjustable elements carried by the rear lower ends of the side walls of said bin and adapted to control the position of the bin when the same is closed; a dust closure carried by said supporting members; and
adjustable arms connected to therear end portion of said dust cover and to said supporting members. 7
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
